KT announced on the 29th that it held an opening ceremony for the 'UHD TV Technical Center' and began full-scale operations.

The UHD TV Technical Center is a place where customers can verify broadcast quality and comprehensively check the technology. Through SD/HD/UHD screens, they can compare broadcast equipment, compatibility, speed, and receive technical support.


UHD broadcasting will be introduced to terrestrial broadcasters in the metropolitan area at the end of May and expanded to metropolitan areas and the Gangwon region, where the PyeongChang Winter Olympics will be held, in December.

Kim Young-sik, Senior Vice President and Head of KT Network Research & Technology Support Group, stated, “We expect KT to play a leading role in the innovation of UHD broadcasting technology through the ‘UHD TV Technical Center.’ We will make every effort to ensure that all citizens can use UHD broadcasting stably and that it is successfully operated at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics.”

Meanwhile, KT plans to launch the 'UHD Broadcasting Dedicated Line Service' for the first time at the end of April, which integrates a high-speed dedicated line that is more than three times faster than HD broadcasting with a codec for UHD.
