Bixby introduces voice recognition for the first time

Samsung Electronics held the 'Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2017' at Lincoln Center in New York on the 29th (local time) and unveiled its strategic smartphones 'Galaxy S8' and 'Galaxy S8+', as well as a new product, the 'Gear 360', a camera capable of 360-degree shooting.

The 'Galaxy S8' and 'Galaxy S8+' released on this day are equipped with an 'Infinity Display' that maximizes the immersive screen experience and a 'Bezel-less design' that minimizes the bezel, presenting a completely new smartphone design.

In particular, the 'Galaxy S8' and 'Galaxy S8+' also support 'Bixby', an intelligent interface that provides a more natural and intuitive user experience, for the first time.



Additionally, the 'Galaxy S8' and 'Galaxy S8+' are equipped with a 10nm processor that drastically reduces power consumption, and also feature various biometric recognition technologies, from fingerprints and iris recognition to facial recognition. It offers powerful performance, including a camera that can take clear pictures in any situation with a dual-pixel sensor and improved image signal processing algorithm, and LTE Wi-Fi that supports gigabit-speed downloads.

Samsung Electronics also introduced new services and products that infinitely expand the smartphone usage experience, such as the new 'Galaxy S8' and 'Galaxy S8+', 'Samsung DeX', 'Samsung Connect', and 'Gear 360'.

The 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch Galaxy S8 and S8+, respectively, feature edge displays crafted with proprietary technology, minimizing the bezels on both the left and right sides of the screen, as well as the top and bottom. Furthermore, the front buttons have been eliminated, creating a sleek, uncluttered design. The black front bezel creates a sense of unity, making the entire front appear as if it were a display.

Despite the larger screen size, the compact design provides a comfortable grip and allows for comfortable one-handed use. Equipped with a QHD+ (2960x1440) Super AMOLED display, it delivers an immersive viewing experience. The 18.5:9 aspect ratio optimizes not only content with a conventional 16:9 ratio but also 21:9 movie content.

'Bixby' is an intelligent interface independently developed by Samsung Electronics. It receives information through various input methods such as voice, touch, and camera, and understands the user's situation and context to provide customized services. We plan to enable voice-activated execution of almost all functions in applications that support Bixby.


The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ are the world's first devices to feature a 10nm processor. The 10nm octa-core processor improves power consumption, CPU performance, and graphics performance. In addition to iris and fingerprint recognition, it also supports facial recognition for convenient smartphone unlocking. Iris recognition also allows for Samsung Pass.

Samsung Electronics also introduced 'Samsung DeX', which allows the 'Galaxy S8' and 'Galaxy S8+' to be used like a desktop PC, and 'Samsung Connect', which allows controlling multiple home appliances with a single application.

Additionally, the new Gear 360, capable of 360-degree omnidirectional shooting, can capture ultra-high-definition video at 4K resolution. It can also be connected to a smartphone or PC for live streaming. Not only can users send the videos they take in real time through social media channels, but they can also watch the videos they take in 'Gear VR'.

This new Gear 360 is compatible with Samsung Electronics' Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, and Galaxy Note 5. It also supports the 2017 Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A7. The new product is compatible with Windows OS computers, iOS devices, and Mac computers.

The 'Galaxy S8' and 'Galaxy S8+' will be released sequentially in global markets starting April 21st in a total of five colors: Midnight Black, Orchid Gray, Arctic Silver, Coral Blue, and Maple Gold.
