KT is responsible for the construction and operation of solar power plants, including integrated control through a smart energy platform, as well as design, procurement, and construction, while Korea Southern Power is in charge of purchasing Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) and operating and managing the power plants.

Through this MOU, KT can establish a foundation for its renewable energy business by securing stable financing, while Korea Southern Power can stably secure a supply of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) in compliance with the national policy of the Renewable Energy Supply Obligation System (RPS). Furthermore, the joint cooperation between the two companies is expected to contribute to national policies regarding CO2 emission reduction and greenhouse gas mitigation.

KT has recently received recognition for the outstanding value of KT-MEG, including winning the Best Mobile Award at the Global Mobile Awards (GLOMO) at MWC 2017 held in Barcelona, Spain. Currently, the Smart Energy Control Center provides real-time integrated monitoring of approximately 16,000 sites, including new and renewable energy, energy efficiency, electric vehicle charging, and demand resource operations.

On this day, Yoon Kyung-rim, Head of the Future Convergence Business Promotion Office at KT, stated, “KT, a leading domestic ICT company, and Korea Southern Power, the nation’s top power generation company, will make active efforts to expand the added value of both companies’ businesses and increase customer benefits through joint business development in the new and renewable energy sector, based on their mutually complementary core competencies.”
