KT and LG Electronics collaborate on home IoT services
Published2017.04.21 11:51KT announced that it is strengthening cooperation with LG Electronics to expand 'Home IoT' by introducing six types of 'GiGA IoT Home Manager' services that connect with home appliances.
The six types of home appliances now integrated are air conditioners, air purifiers, robot vacuums, ovens, refrigerators, and washing machines, enabling IoT capabilities through wireless routers connected via home Wi-Fi. The AI TV 'GiGA Genie' can also be integrated and used.
KT and LG Electronics provide features such as device status checking, remote control, and status notification for six types of home appliances. Through the GiGA IoT Home Manager app, users can check the washing machine's operating time and activate wrinkle prevention if the machine finishes before they arrive home. Air conditioners and air purifiers can also be operated without the product's remote control.
The GiGA IoT Home Manager app provides a recipe function that automatically assists with complex control tailored to the user's lifestyle. You can enjoy complex control services, such as automatically operating an LG Electronics air purifier when indoor fine dust levels are detected above a certain threshold.
Kim Jun-geun, Head of KT’s GiGA IoT Business Group, stated, “Through the home IoT business cooperation between KT and LG Electronics, we have been able to introduce convenient and differentiated home appliance-telecommunications convergence services.” He added, “In addition to our collaboration with LG Electronics, we plan to introduce various home IoT services linked with GiGA Genie to help customers enjoy a more enriched life.”

KT-Daewoo E&C, Check the air quality within the complex at a glance! From playgrounds to daycare centers
KT announced that it has applied a "Smart Air Quality Management Solution" for measuring and analyzing indoor and outdoor air environment conditions in apartments to "Okjeong Central Park Purgio" in collaboration with Daewoo Engineering and Construction. The "Smart Air Quality Management Solution" is a solution that allows residents to check air quality information collected 24/7 from IoT terminals located throughout and around the apartment complex in real-time via smartphone apps and web interfaces. Residents can check conditions in real-time through the application and quickly identify the external air quality level when opening windows within the apartment complex. When conditions deteriorate below appropriate levels or deviate from user-set standards, push notifications are provided. Based on user location, the solution provides real-time information on ultrafine dust (PM2.5), fine dust (PM10), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), temperature, humidity, noise, and weather information for outdoor activities, ventilation feasibility, indoor laundry drying, and other purposes. Currently, the service operates at the level of real-time air monitoring in actual living spaces such as playgrounds, daycare centers, and community centers. Going forward, in addition to continuous management of measurement information, the solution is planned to provide integrated IoT control functions that activate air conditioning units or air purifiers installed in homes automatically when outdoor air quality is good for ventilation or when indoor air quality is poor to improve air conditions. Kim Jun-geun, Head of KT's GiGA IoT Business Division, stated, "The solution is expected to be useful for apartment units with young children or elderly family members who are sensitive to air pollution levels." He added, "We will continue to do our best to develop services that protect customer health and provide various benefits using IoT technology."

Nordic, Thread Networking Solution SDK to Help Home IoT
노르딕 세미컨덕는 스레드 네트워킹 솔루션 nRF5 SDK(소프트웨어개발키트)를 발표했다. 이 솔루션은 오픈소스 방식의 스레드 네트워킹 프로토콜로, 스마트 홈 및 가정용 IoT 개발을 지원한다. 스레드를 기반으로 하는 주요 가정용 IoT에는 홈 자동화, 가전기기, 출입통제, 온도조절, 안전, 조명, 헬스케어, 보안 시스템 등이 있다. 노르딕의 최신 nRF52840 멀티 프로토콜 블루투스 저에너지SoC에서 지원하는 IEEE 802.15.4 PHY를 활용하여 설계할 수 있다. 또한, 노르딕의 기존 SDK 및 칩에 적용된 OTA(Over-The-Air) DFU(Device-Firmware-Update)처럼 독창적인 스레드 네트워크 기반의 DFU 기능이 추가되었다. 256kb용량의 RAM과 1mb플래시 메모리를 제공하는 노르딕 세미컨덕터의 nRF52840 SoC는 동일한 단일 칩에서 스레드 및 블루투스 저에너지 프로토콜 스택을 모두 실행할 수 있다. 보안기능은 Cortex-M 기반 블루투스 저에너지 SoC에 통합된 ARM CryptoCell-310 암호화 가속기를 사용하여 스레드 보안 알고리즘을 실행한다. 이러한 모든 기능은 개발자에게 친숙한 IP-기반(6LoWPAN 지원 IPv6) 메시 네트워크를 기반으로 구현된다. 비영리 단체인 스레드 그룹(Thread Group)은 스레드를 가정 내외의 IoT 제품의 기반이 될 수 있도록 주력하고 있으며, 제품 개발자 및 제조사, 소비자들에게 스레드 고유의 기능과 이점을 교육하고, 객관적인 제품 인증을 통해 안정적인 사용을 보장하고 있다. 이밖에 노르딕의 nRF52840 SoC를 위해 미리 구현된 오픈스레드 스택과 각기 다른 모든 스레드 기능 예제들, 오픈스레드 네트워크 코-프로세서 지원, CoAP 애플리케이션 레이어 예제, 보더 라우터 및 클라우드 커넥티비티 예제, 그리고 스레드 토폴로지 모니터를 비롯한 다양한 PC 툴이 포함되어 있다. 노르딕 세미컨덕터의 세일즈 및 마케팅 디렉터인 기에르 랑엘란드(Geir Langeland)는 “스레드는 현재 가정용 IoT 분야에서 부상하고 있는 주요 무선 기술 중 하나다.”고 말하고, “노르딕은 지속해서 오픈스레드 소프트웨어 스택의 개발과 발전을 위해 전략적으로 투자할 것.”이라고 밝혔다. 노르딕의 스레드용 nRF5 SDK는 현재 Alpha 버전으로 이용할 수 있으며, 풀 버전은 노르딕의 nRF52840 SoC의 양산 시점에 맞춰 2017년 4분기에 출시될 예정이다.
