ON Semiconductor Expands In-Automotive Networking Portfolio with Integrated LIN + LDO and Dual CAN Transceivers
December 05, 2011 – ON Semiconductor (Vice President for Korea and Southeast Asia: Kent Jeon), a provider of high-performance silicon solutions for energy-efficient electronics, announced two new integrated transceiver devices for use in LIN (local interconnect network) and CAN (control area network) designs for automotive and industrial applications. The NCV7425 LIN+LDO transceiver and the NVC7441 dual CAN transceiver are both cost-effective solutions that save space and enable stable LIN and CAN-based designs, as well as next-generation automotive 'convenience' applications.

A key feature of the NCV7425 is the integration of a voltage regulator and reset function. The LIN version 2.x /SAE J2602 device connects to the LIN protocol controller and physical bus, supporting a transmission rate of 20 kilobits per second (20 kb/s). Available with 3.3-volt (V) and 5V output options, the NCV7425 supports loads up to 150 milliamperes (mA) and complies with the latest automotive standards. Additionally, the internally implemented slope control function provides enhanced electromagnetic interference (EMI) compatibility.
The NCV7425 supports a bus voltage of ±45 V and provides onboard features including thermal shutdown, negative short-circuit protection, 45 V load dump protection, and ESD protection up to ±10 kilovolts (kV). The device's INH output is used for auxiliary circuit management, including the control of an external LDO, and a voltage drop detection circuit provides a reset output for the host controller.
The NCV7441 incorporates two completely independent high-speed CAN transceivers, each capable of being connected to two CAN protocol controllers. Each CAN channel can be switched to normal or low-current standby mode, which allows for remote wake-up from the bus. This feature can reduce overall power consumption and helps save cost and space by replacing two single CAN transceivers with dual transceivers housed in a single package.
The NCV7441 provides high-speed communication of up to 1 megabit per second (1 Mb/s) while ensuring reliable communication in harsh environments such as automotive and industrial with excellent ESD performance exceeding ±10 kV. Low electromagnetic field emissions further reduce the need for external chokes, thereby reducing the number of components, board space, and costs.
NCV7425 and NCV7441 are AEC-Q100 certified and have operating temperature ranges of -40 ºC to +150 ºC and -40 ºC to +125 ºC, respectively.
