TAS is an international IT conference held every two years since the Smart Africa Manifesto. Since 2013, it has been co-hosted by the Rwandan government and the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), and African leaders and major IT companies have attended. This year, about 300 political and government officials from major African countries attended with the theme of smart cities.

KT, together with its local subsidiary Africa Olleh Service Ltd. (AOS), showcased four mobile diagnostic devices linked to the healthcare platform at the booth, as well as the ‘KT Digital Healthcare Solution’ that connects health centers and hospitals in each village. It is expected that this will eliminate blind spots in medical care through early diagnosis and rapid response to major infectious diseases such as HIV and malaria, as well as environmental improvements.

KT Future Business Development Team Leader and Managing Director Koh Yoon-jeon said, “We plan to expand our mobile diagnostic device business based on the KT Healthcare platform in the future, and through big data analysis of accumulated diagnostic data, we plan to improve Africa’s challenging problems, such as malaria and HIV, using ICT technology.”

In July 2016, KT signed a memorandum of understanding with the National University Hospital of Kigali, Rwanda, to promote a digital healthcare pilot project, laying the foundation for advancing into Africa.
