Western Digital Unveils External Drive with Next-Generation Interface

Western Digital is unveiling its new G-Technology external drive lineup featuring next-generation interfaces, including Thunderbolt 3.
G-Technology, which will be unveiled at the 27th Korea International Broadcast, Audio & Lighting Equipment Show (KOBA 2017), held at COEX in Samseong-dong from the 16th to the 19th, is an external drive brand optimized for content production environments such as photography and video. Western Digital aims to maximize the speed and performance of G-Technology drives with next-generation interface support, meeting the performance demands of creative professionals handling large-capacity, high-resolution content.
The G-Technology brand products that have received this interface upgrade are G-DRIVE, G-RAID, and G-SPEED Shuttle XL. Equipped with Thunderbolt 3, which delivers ultra-fast transfer speeds of up to 40Gb/s, all three products provide even more powerful storage solutions for creative professionals, such as videographers and photographers, and related professional applications.
“G-Technology has been committed to delivering more complete storage solutions for professionals, including the introduction of next-generation interfaces like Thunderbolt 3,” said Sven Rathjen, vice president of client solutions marketing at Western Digital. “This interface upgrade is part of our efforts to deliver faster, more reliable storage solutions that can meet today’s and ever-increasing performance demands.”
Additionally, all G-Technology storage solutions feature HGST Ultrastar Enterprise-grade HDDs and are backed by an industry-leading five-year limited warranty. The default format is set for Mac PCs, and can be easily reformatted for Windows PCs using the G-Technology Windows Format Wizard.
Meanwhile, Western Digital will be operating a G-Technology booth (COEX Hall C, Booth C713) at KOBA 2017, showcasing a variety of external drives for creative professionals. Visitors can experience a variety of G-Technology products, including the newly unveiled G-Drive, G-RAID, and G-Speed Shuttle XL, all equipped with Thunderbolt 3. HGST's data center and enterprise storage solutions will also be on display.

Western Digital Expands Wi-Fi Wireless External Hard Drive Lineup
Western Digital has expanded its Wi-Fi mobile storage lineup by introducing new My Passport Wireless Pro models in 1TB and 4TB capacities. My Passport Wireless Pro is a wireless external hard drive that provides wireless data storage and remote access capabilities, allowing users to perform various tasks such as file transfers and backups without carrying a laptop during outdoor shooting sessions. Western Digital previously launched 2TB and 3TB versions of My Passport Wireless Pro in August of last year, and has now added 1TB and 4TB capacities to the lineup. In conjunction with the launch of the new lineup, Western Digital has released a firmware update that enables users to transfer, edit, and stream outdoor photography in real-time. The key features of the update are as follows. The built-in SD 3.0 card reader and USB port allow users to copy or move various file formats including RAW format photos, 4K, HD, and SD video to or from the internal hard drive. In addition to SD cards, content transfer stability has been overall improved with compatible devices connected via USB, such as DSLR cameras, action cameras, flash drives, and CompactFlash (CF) card readers. Compatibility with GoPro Hero4 and Hero5 cameras has also been enhanced. Battery life extends up to 10 hours, providing seamless transfer, editing, and streaming performance between My Passport Wireless Pro and iOS and Android-based devices and applications. New capabilities have been added to My Passport Wireless Pro, including the ability to scan photo library metadata while on the move and automatically generate thumbnail previews in the My Cloud app. Through the update, users can now stream media content organization, music playback, video viewing, and photo browsing directly from My Passport Wireless Pro, all based on an even more convenient and powerful Flex interface.
