Samsung Electronics SSD, the first semiconductor to receive Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) certification

Samsung Electronics' best-selling SSD (Solid State Drive) model '850 EVO 250GB' has become the first in the semiconductor industry to receive 'Environmental Product Declaration (EPD)' certification.
The 'Environmental Performance Label', hosted by the Ministry of Environment and operated by the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute, is a nationally recognized certification system that quantitatively indicates and discloses the environmental impact of the entire process of a product or service, from raw material extraction to production, transportation/distribution, use, and disposal. It is used as an indicator to help consumers choose more environmentally friendly products.
The '850 EVO 250GB' model has obtained the Environmental Performance Labeling certification for SSD products, and has disclosed six major environmental performances: ▲resource consumption ▲global warming ▲ozone layer impact ▲acidification ▲eutrophication ▲photochemical oxide formation.
The '850 EVO 250GB' model, which recently received the Environmental Performance Label certification, achieved the industry's lowest 'global warming index' (carbon emissions) of 9.327 kg CO2 per product. This figure is less than the average annual carbon absorption of a 30-year-old tree (9.36 kg CO2).
“With this Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) certification, we can now show that Samsung SSDs are not only technologically advanced but also environmentally friendly solutions,” said Kim Eon-soo, executive director of the brand product marketing team at Samsung Electronics’ Memory Business Division. “We plan to expand the EPD certification to our line of premium SSDs that are at the industry’s top level.”
In addition, a total of 383 products have been certified for the 'Carbon Footprint' category, the largest number in the industry, and in the future, the '850 EVO 250GB' product will also be certified for the 'Water Footprint'.
