KT is participating as an official IT sponsor of the U-20 World Cup. Among the six stadiums hosting 52 preliminary and final matches, KT has deployed a 5G pilot network at Jeonju World Cup Stadium and Suwon World Cup Stadium, where the Korean national team will host preliminary and final matches. Based on this network, dedicated cameras and 5G base stations installed at the stadiums were linked to 5G core equipment in Umyeon-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul, and the CDN center in Bundang-gu, Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, providing fast and realistic media services.

360-degree VR is a technology that stitches together high-definition videos taken by multiple VR-specific cameras installed behind the goal so that they can be viewed from a 360-degree angle, and transmits the stitched videos in real time through an ultra-high-speed network.

You can experience it firsthand at the CD Zone (Commercial Display Zone) located outdoors at Jeonju and Suwon World Cup Stadiums. If you can't make it to the stadiums, you can enjoy 360-degree video on your phone by downloading the "FIFA U-20 WC 2017 VR Player" app. This app can be downloaded from the Google Play Store and is also linked from the banners of Olleh TV Mobile and the apps of the three major terrestrial broadcasters.

Interactive Time Slice is a media service that allows users to select a desired point or player and view still images from various angles. It features a variety of features, including Flying View, which provides smooth perspective transitions, and Free Focus, which allows users to select a specific player and view their footage in detail, allowing viewers to experience the excitement of the game in a unique way. Interactive Time Slice is available in outdoor CD zones at stadiums and has also been provided to broadcasters for television coverage.

Additionally, KT will display a 5G bus in the outdoor CD Zone at Jeonju and Suwon World Cup Stadiums during the Korean national team's preliminary and final matches. The 5G bus will feature content such as 3D augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and holograms, as well as autonomous driving demonstration videos.

Meanwhile, KT will support the Korean national team by holding street cheering events for the Korea-Argentina match on the 23rd and the Korea-England match on the 26th. Participants in the street cheering event, held at the North Plaza of Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul on match days, will receive cheering items such as headbands and handkerchiefs. Participants will also have the opportunity to experience a roller coaster VR attraction that promises thrilling speed and thrilling thrills.

Oh Seong-mok, president of KT’s network division, said, “We expect the players who played in this U-20 World Cup to lead the world of soccer in the 5G era and become the protagonists of 5G media services,” and added, “Following the U-20 World Cup, KT will do its best to present 5G technology to the world as an official partner of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics, which opens in February next year.”
