Galvanically Isolated Single-Channel Gate Driver IC

Power Integrations has announced the addition of new products to its SCALE-iDriver product family of galvanically isolated single-channel gate driver ICs.

This product supports IGBT blocking voltages up to 1700V, which are typically used in 400VAC and 690VAC line applications. Additionally, this device is suitable for the latest 3-level topology photovoltaic inverters and photovoltaic arrays utilizing the new 1500V DC line standard. Through the expansion of the 1700V SCALE-iDriver product family, OEM companies can use the same highly integrated, safe, and reliable driver technology across diverse solutions.

The 1700V SCALE-iDriver IC, optimized for driving IGBTs and MOSFETs, integrates Power Integrations' advanced FluxLink magnetic induction bidirectional communication technology with SCALE™ power device driver technology. FluxLink eliminates the need for unstable optocouplers and associated compensation circuits, reducing system complexity and improving operational stability. SCALE technology integrates all key gate driver functions into an ASIC, reducing size and improving reliability while simplifying design. The innovative eSOP package features a creepage distance greater than 9.5mm and a CTI of 600, ensuring large operating voltage margins and high system reliability.

This product operates at frequencies up to 75kHz between -40°C and +125°C and meets the requirements of IEC 60747-17 and VDE 0884-17 standards coming into effect soon. The device features ASSD (Advanced Soft Shut Down) functionality with saturation (circuit short) protection capability, providing stable and easily implementable power switch protection.

Additionally, without an external booster, it supports gate current supply up to 8A and systems exceeding 110kW, and with an external booster, it can support maximum gate current of 30A and systems exceeding 400kW. The 1700V SCALE-iDriver IC is suitable for EV charging and traction equipment, including industrial drive applications, power supplies/UPS, photovoltaic inverters of all sizes, industrial HVAC, and commercial EV. The SID1183K device is currently available for sale at $3.19 per unit in quantities of 10,000 units.
