"ICT That Changes Everything": World IT Show Held
‘월드IT쇼 2017(World IT Show 2017, 이하 월드IT쇼)’행사가 국내외 450여 업체가 참가해 오는 24일(수)부터 27일(토)까지 나흘간 일정으로 서울 코엑스 A, B, C홀에서 개최된다. 미래창조과학부가 주최하고 산업통상자원부, 서울특별시가 후원하는 월드IT쇼는 국내의 ICT기술을 해외에 알리고 관련 산업 비즈니스를 활성화하기 위한 목적으로 개최되는 국내 최대 규모 ICT(정보통신기술) 전시회이다. 올해로 10회째를 맞이한 이번 전시회에는 IT 관련 국내 대기업 및 중소·벤처 기업, 해외 기업들이 참가해 최신 IT기술 및 제품을 선보인다. 이번 월드IT쇼는 ‘모든 것을 변화시키는 ICT’ 라는 ‘Transform Everything’ 이라는 주제로 ▲모바일(스마트폰, 태블릿PC, VR(가상현실) 및 AR(증강현실), 디지털 방송 장비 등) ▲IoT, 드론, 스마트카 등 IT 융합기술(자율주행 자동차, 조선, 전력, 교통, 로봇, 의료 융합 기술 등) ▲클라우드 컴퓨팅, 빅데이터 분야 IT 서비스와 장비 ▲소프트웨어와 디지털 콘텐츠, 3D, 인공지능(AI)기술 ▲산업용 전자제품, 이상 5개 분야로 나뉘어 전시된다.

KT는 24일부터 27일까지 나흘간 코엑스(COEX)에서 열리는 국내 최대 정보통신박람회 ‘월드IT쇼 2017(이하 WIS 2017)’에 참가해 ‘미리 보는 평창 5G’ 주제로 전시관을 선보인다. KT는 이번 전시에서 ▲5G 네트워크 존(5G Network Zone) ▲융합 서비스 존(Convergence Service Zone) 등 총 2개 존으로 전시관을 구성했다. 전시관 입구에는 ‘5G 네트워크’ 존을 구성하고 KT 무선가입자들을 위한 스마트폰 배터리 소모 절감 기술인 C-DRX(Connected mode Discontinuous Reception)를 배치했다. KT 무선가입자들은 C-DRX를 통해 스마트폰 배터리 이용시간이 최대 45% 증대되는 효과를 누릴 수 있다. C-DRX는 데이터 사용 시 항상 연결 상태가 되어 배터리를 소모하던 기존의 방식을 개선해, 송수신이 없을 때는 통신 기능을 꺼 둠으로써 배터리 소모를 절감하는 방식이다. 전시장 내에서 관람객은 홀로렌즈의 MR을 통해 상세 설명을 들으며 KT 무선 가입자 전체가 1초당 절감하는 전력을 활용한 수천 개의 LED 전구로 눈 내리는 겨울을 형상화한 미디어 파사드를 감상할 수 있다. 미디어 파사드를 통과하면 5G 기술을 만나볼 수 있다. 평창 5G 규격 기반의 속도, 커버리지, 장비를 소개하며 부스 중앙의 디오라마를 통해 5G 기술에 대한 증강현실(AR) 설명도 함께 제공한다. ‘융합 서비스’ 존 전면에는 관람객들이 KT의 5G 서비스를 다양한 동계 스포츠를 즐기며 실감나게 체험할 수 있는 VR 기구를 갖췄다. 루지와 알파인 스키, 봅슬레이, 피겨스케이팅 등 다양한 VR 기구들을 통해 관람객들이 5G 서비스를 체험할 수 있다.

Samsung Electronics Unveils Smart Life at World IT Show
Samsung Electronics showcased innovative products at World IT Show 2017 held at COEX, presenting new possibilities for smart life. Samsung Electronics configured its exhibition space to allow visitors to directly experience the 'QLED TV,' which redefined the standard for picture quality through new quantum dot technology applying metal materials, as well as various products released in 2017 including 'Galaxy S8,' 'Galaxy S8+,' 'Gear360,' and 'Gear VR.' Samsung QLED TV is a television that significantly enhanced picture quality by applying metal to quantum dot particles. It not only accurately implements the DCI-P3 color gamut, which is the content production standard of Hollywood studios, but also achieves 100% implementation of color volume, a more refined standard.

European Patent Applications Surpass 200,000 for the First Time… South Korea Maintains 5th Place, Led by Batteries and Telecommunications
According to the European Patent Office (EPO)'s 'Technology Dashboard 2025', European patent applications last year reached 201,974, surpassing 200,000 for the first time. Korean companies and inventors filed 14,355 applications, representing a 9.5% increase from the previous year and maintaining 5th place by country. Battery, digital communication, and semiconductor technologies led the growth, with Samsung ranking as the top EPO applicant for the second consecutive year and LG reaching 3rd place. The presence of major domestic cities such as Seoul, Suwon, and Yongin was also confirmed. It was also revealed that Korea's European patent strategy is expanding beyond individual technologies to span the entire industry.

SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK텔레콤이 3월 21일 서울 광화문 일대에서 열린 대형 K-팝 공연에 AI 기반 네트워크 운영 시스템을 처음 적용해 통신 품질을 관리했다고 밝혔다. 공연 전후 3시간 동안 모바일 데이터 사용량은 12.15TB로 직전 주말 같은 시간대보다 약 2배 늘었다. SK텔레콤은 AI 시스템 ‘A-One’을 활용해 5분 단위, 50m 단위로 트래픽을 감시하며 과부하 가능성에 대응했고, 임시 통신 시설과 현장 인력 운영도 병행했다. 밀집 행사와 외국인 이용 수요가 동시에 늘어나는 환경에서 AI 기반 자율 네트워크 운영의 현장 적용 가능성을 확인한 사례로 해석된다.
