Dell EMC Announces 3 New Products Targeting Open Networking 'SDN Market'
Published2017.06.08 10:42Dell EMC has unveiled a new 'Open Networking' portfolio designed to increase data center infrastructure flexibility while drastically reducing costs. Dell EMC's Open Networking strategy takes traditional Software Defined Networking (SDN) a step further, characterized by providing a variety of network OS options along with open standard hardware and automated management tools.
According to a recent report by global data research firm ACG Research, the five-year Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of companies adopting open networking models was only 53% of that of traditional methods, and capital expenditures were 47% lower. The average implementation time for delivering new services or applications was also reduced to one-third of that of traditional methods.
The new products announced by Dell EMC all feature this open networking technology, and there are a total of three models: Dell EMC’s first 25GbE (Gigabit Ethernet) open networking switch S5100-ON, ToR (Top-of-Rack) data center open networking switch S4100-ON, and N1100-ON, optimized for small and medium-sized business environments, with a focus on reducing network costs and enabling flexible operations.
The S5100-ON and S4100-ON series are equipped with OS 10 Enterprise Edition, Dell EMC's next-generation networking operating system. Based on open-source technologies from the Linux Foundation and the Open Compute Project (OCP), OS 10 Enterprise Edition is a modular OS for network infrastructure that meets the needs of both traditional and DevOps environments. The OS 10 Enterprise Edition package provides L2 and L3 networking capabilities and allows for easy software optimization depending on the environment. It enabled in-house software development by integrating additional open source features or utilizing third-party Linux applications, standard Linux, DevOps tools, and more.

Cisco Builds Cloud Infrastructure at Hanyang University
Cisco Korea announced that Hanyang University has deployed Cisco UCS server-based HyperFlex at the 'Hanyang Cloud Center'. The Hanyang Cloud Center was designed to implement Software Defined Networking (SDN) in response to rapidly changing environments. Cisco's x86 servers, network, and security solutions were applied, and the core and regional backbone networks were enhanced through Cisco Nexus 7000 and 9000, while server virtualization was implemented with Cisco UCS and HyperFlex. Cisco HyperFlex, a hyperconverged solution, was deployed.

Dell EMC, Easily Build a Hybrid Cloud
Dell EMC has unveiled a new cloud appliance for Microsoft's Azure Stack. The "Dell EMC Cloud for Azure Stack," scheduled for release in the second half of this year, is a hybrid cloud platform that leverages Dell EMC's advanced technology and support services to implement an on-premises environment identical to MS's public cloud, Azure. Dell EMC ranked first with a 17.6% market share in last year's IDC Worldwide Quarterly Cloud IT Infrastructure Tracker. The newly announced "Azure Stack Cloud Appliance" consolidates Dell EMC's leadership and technological capabilities, offering a turnkey solution that enables rapid and easy deployment of Microsoft Azure Stack-based hybrid cloud infrastructure.

Databricks Unveils Open AI Security Monitoring 'Lakewatch'
Databricks entered the security market on March 24 by unveiling LakeWatch, an open-source agentic SIEM. The core functionality of this product is to integrate and analyze security, IT, and business data in a single environment to support AI-based threat detection and investigation. The company explained that it reduces the limitations of existing security operations centers, which have had to forgo some data due to high cost structures, and enables large-scale data analysis and automation based on open formats and ecosystems. LakeWatch is currently offered as a private preview, with Adobe and Dropbox mentioned as early customers. Databricks also announced an expanded partnership with Anthropic as well as the acquisition of Antimatter and SiftD.ai.
