Toshiba Launches Enterprise-Class 2.5-inch HDD
Published2017.06.14 10:44Toshiba has launched the AL14SX series, featuring enterprise-grade performance for essential server and storage applications.
Toshiba Corporation’s Storage/Electronic Device Solutions Company announced that it has added a new product to its lineup of enterprise-grade hard disk drives (HDDs) for essential server and storage applications.
The AL14SX series has a rotational speed of 15,000 RPM, a 2.5-inch form factor, and a SAS interface speed of 12 Gb/s. The newly released models include a 4K Native (4Kn) model and a 512 Emulation (512e) model employing Advanced Format Sector Technologies, as well as a 512 Native (512n) model optimized for existing applications and hypervisor environments. The AL14SX series is a product that can be selected to suit a wide range of customer applications.
The AL14SX3 series consists of three capacity products: 300GB, 600GB, and 900GB. The maximum capacity of the 900GB model is 50% larger than the 600GB model of the previous AL13SX series. Additionally, the sustained data processing speed of the 4Kn and 512e models is 290 MiB/s, which is about 19% faster than the previous model, and power efficiency (W/GB) has improved by about 28.7%.
There are also models that support Instant Erasing (SIE) functionality, which rapidly invalidates data written to the disk, enabling efficient disposal and reuse of data.

Will the adoption of flexible displays in HUDs accelerate?
현대차에서 오는 13일 공개될 예정인 소형 SUV ‘코나’에 컴바이너형 헤드업디스플레이(HUD)가 탑재될 것으로 알려지면서 HUD에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있다. 컴바이너형은 내장형이 아닌 차량에 HUD를 별도로 설치하는 형태이다. HUD는 차량의 현재 속도, 연료 잔량, 내비게이션 등을 운전자 바로 앞 유리창 부분에 이미지를 투영해 주어 운전자가 운전 시 시선을 다른 곳으로 옮기는 것을 최소화 시켜주는 장치이다. 내비게이션 조작이나 스마트폰 사용으로 전방 주시를 하지 않아 일어나는 사고를 예방할 수 있는 시스템으로 HDD(Head Down Display)보다 사각지대를 방지할 수 있어 안전하다는 평가를 받고 있다. 현재 HUD에 사용하는 디스플레이 패널은 실리콘 액정표시장치(LCoS), MEMS Scanner, LCD, OLED를 작게 만들어 사용하고 있다. 효율이 좋고 투명화가 가능하며 플렉서블화할 수 있다는 장점을 가진 마이크로 LED가 떠오르면서 HUD에도 적용될지 주목되고 있다.

Western Digital Launches HDD with 25% Increased Maximum Capacity
Western Digital has launched two HDD models—'WD Red 10TB' and 'WD Red Pro 10TB'—optimized for NAS (network storage) systems in personal, home, and small office environments. The newly introduced WD Red 10TB and WD Red Pro 10TB incorporate Western Digital's patented 'HelioSeal' technology, which increases the maximum capacity of the existing lineup by 25%. HelioSeal is a technology that minimizes internal resistance by using helium, which has 1/7 the air density, enabling the use of thinner disks while guaranteeing a stable recording interface. To date, more than 15 million units of Western Digital's high-capacity helium-based HDDs have been shipped and deployed in various storage-based systems, including NAS, providing ample capacity and outstanding reliability.

Databricks Unveils Open AI Security Monitoring 'Lakewatch'
Databricks entered the security market on March 24 by unveiling LakeWatch, an open-source agentic SIEM. The core functionality of this product is to integrate and analyze security, IT, and business data in a single environment to support AI-based threat detection and investigation. The company explained that it reduces the limitations of existing security operations centers, which have had to forgo some data due to high cost structures, and enables large-scale data analysis and automation based on open formats and ecosystems. LakeWatch is currently offered as a private preview, with Adobe and Dropbox mentioned as early customers. Databricks also announced an expanded partnership with Anthropic as well as the acquisition of Antimatter and SiftD.ai.
