Dell EMC Transforms IT with SDS
Published2017.06.15 15:17Dell EMC presents flexible and cost-effective IT transformation solutions by significantly expanding its Software Defined Storage (SDS) portfolio.
Dell EMC's SDS solution, which enables easy management of data center infrastructure, combines with the newly unveiled Dell EMC 14th generation 'PowerEdge' servers to provide even more powerful performance and scalability.
The new SDS portfolio announced by Dell EMC is scheduled for release in the second half of the year and includes: 'ScaleIO.Next,' a new product for the enterprise-grade SDS solution 'ScaleIO Ready Node'; a new portfolio of 'Dell EMC Ready Nodes' for various virtualization platforms; and updates to the object storage solutions 'ECS (Elastic Cloud Storage)' and 'IsilonSD Edge.' Along with this, Dell EMC also unveiled 'Project Nautilus,' a solution for the analysis and storage of large-scale IoT (Internet of Things) data.
First, 'ScaleIO.Next' is a scale-out integrated appliance that implements SDS and is the next-generation model of the 'ScaleIO Ready Node'. 'ScaleIO.Next' is equipped with 'ScaleIO', an industry-leading SDS solution, on top of the 'Dell EMC PowerEdge' server, which recently achieved the number one sales volume in the global x86 server market.
Without the need to set up a separate SAN network or external storage, Direct-Attached Storage (DAS) disks mounted on the server can be integrated using virtualization technology to function as block storage. In addition to enabling flexible expansion without system interruption, a new inline data compression feature has been added, and snapshot capabilities (data recovery via image copying) have also been enhanced. In particular, the 14th generation Dell EMC PowerEdge servers are expected to deliver exceptional high performance by adopting NVMe (Non-Volatile Memory Express) flash technology.

Dell EMC Announces 3 New Products Targeting Open Networking 'SDN Market'
Dell EMC has unveiled a new 'Open Networking' portfolio that increases flexibility in data center infrastructure while delivering significant cost savings. Dell EMC's open networking strategy goes beyond the conventional SDN (Software-Defined Networking) approach, characterized by offering various network OS options along with open standard hardware and automated management tools. According to a recent report from ACG Research, a global data research firm, the five-year TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) for enterprises adopting the open networking model was only 53% of the traditional approach, with capital expenditure 47% lower. Databricks Unveils Open AI Security Monitoring 'Lakewatch'
Databricks entered the security market on March 24 by unveiling LakeWatch, an open-source agentic SIEM. The core functionality of this product is to integrate and analyze security, IT, and business data in a single environment to support AI-based threat detection and investigation. The company explained that it reduces the limitations of existing security operations centers, which have had to forgo some data due to high cost structures, and enables large-scale data analysis and automation based on open formats and ecosystems. LakeWatch is currently offered as a private preview, with Adobe and Dropbox mentioned as early customers. Databricks also announced an expanded partnership with Anthropic as well as the acquisition of Antimatter and SiftD.ai.
