Designing differentiated IoT products and systems in various application fields

ON Semiconductor announced that its IoT Development Kit (IDK) won the 2017 IoT Evolution Product of the Year Award.

The IoT Innovation Product Award was hosted by IoT Evolution magazine and IoT Evolution World, leading magazines and websites related to Internet of Things (IoT) technology. IDK is a fully customizable platform that enables engineers to design differentiated IoT products and systems across various application fields, including smart homes/buildings, smart cities, industrial automation, and mHealth.

The IDK baseboard is equipped with On Semiconductor's latest NCS36510 system-on-chip (SoC), and the 32-bit ARM® Cortex®-M3 core runs ARM mbed™ OS.

By mounting different daughter cards on the IDK baseboard, various options can be added, such as connectivity (SIGFOX, Ethernet, 802.15.4-based wireless Zigbee and Thread protocols, etc.), sensors (motion, ambient light, proximity, heart rate, etc.), and actuators (steppers, brushless motor drivers, LED drivers). In other words, engineers can select the technology most suitable for a specific application without having to make separate compromises.

This hardware, complemented by an Eclipse-based integrated development environment (IDE), includes a C++ compiler, a debugger, and a code editor. Design engineers can receive more complete support during testing and product development through a wide range of applications, use cases, and related libraries. In addition to the native cloud software platform, adopting this baseboard, which supports industry-standard cloud connectivity protocols (MQTT and REST), also enables collaboration with various IoT cloud service providers.
