KT Launches Second Version of 'Giga WiFi Home' with Enhanced Security
Published2017.08.16 12:27KT's 'Giga WiFi Home', the first domestic telecommunications company to be launched in February 2015, is a wireless WiFi router that can use data at a maximum speed of 867 Mbps. It allows you to use wireless Internet at home or in the office at a comfortable speed, and has surpassed 2 million households in just 28 months since its launch.
Giga WiFi Wave 2 is priced at 3,000 won per month (based on a 3-year contract), the same price as the existing 'Giga WiFi Home', but its performance has been improved. It applies the 802.11.ac Wave 2 wireless standard, which was mainly supported only by premium routers, and supports more convenient and stable services with technologies such as ▲MU-MIMO (Multi User-MIMO) ▲Beamforming ▲Band Steering.
First of all, MU-MIMO is a technology that eliminates speed reduction when multiple terminals are connected to Wi-Fi at the same time. It is a useful technology for users who have experienced Wi-Fi speed reduction due to multiple people connecting to one router. Beamforming technology is a technology that supports stable connection by concentrating signals to the terminals connected to the router. Lastly, Band Steering technology automatically connects the optimal frequency among 2.4GHz/5GHz depending on the communication environment to provide a smoother signal.
While existing Wi-Fi routers required users to set up the optimal communication conditions themselves, 'Giga Wi-Fi Wave 2' is a smart Wi-Fi that allows the router itself to provide optimal communication quality, helping customers experience the next-generation 5G Wi-Fi in advance.
Giga WiFi Wave 2 is smaller than the existing 'Giga WiFi Home' at 150mm wide, 150mm long, and 36mm high. In addition, the antenna can be rotated in any direction, up, down, left, or right.
KT Internet Business Division Managing Director Won Seong-woon said, “Thanks to the support of many customers, the number of households subscribing to Giga WiFi Home has surpassed 2 million,” and “KT will continue to introduce innovative technologies for people, such as Giga WiFi Wave 2, to lead the Giga Internet market in Korea.”

KT and the City of Daegu jointly foster Internet of Things experts to lead the Fourth Industrial Revolution. KT announced that it will participate in the establishment and operation of the 'Daegu IoT Academy (iotacademy.or.kr)', a specialized educational institution for nurturing Internet of Things experts to lead the Fourth Industrial Revolution and revitalize the regional economy. European Patent Applications Surpass 200,000 for the First Time… South Korea Maintains 5th Place, Led by Batteries and Telecommunications
According to the European Patent Office (EPO)'s 'Technology Dashboard 2025', European patent applications last year reached 201,974, surpassing 200,000 for the first time. Korean companies and inventors filed 14,355 applications, representing a 9.5% increase from the previous year and maintaining 5th place by country. Battery, digital communication, and semiconductor technologies led the growth, with Samsung ranking as the top EPO applicant for the second consecutive year and LG reaching 3rd place. The presence of major domestic cities such as Seoul, Suwon, and Yongin was also confirmed. It was also revealed that Korea's European patent strategy is expanding beyond individual technologies to span the entire industry.

SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK Telecom announced that it applied an AI-based network operation system for the first time at a large-scale K-pop concert held in the Gwanghwamun area of Seoul on March 21st, managing communication quality throughout the event. Mobile data usage during the three hours before and after the concert reached 12.15TB, approximately doubling compared to the same time slot the previous weekend. SK Telecom monitored traffic using the AI system 'A-One' in five-minute and 50-meter units to respond to potential overload situations, while also operating temporary communication facilities and on-site personnel in parallel. This case is interpreted as confirmation of the practical applicability of AI-based autonomous network operation in an environment where demand from dense events and foreign users increases simultaneously.
