LG Home Appliances Connect with Amazon Echo Voice Recognition Following Google

LG Electronics' home appliances continue to expand their voice recognition AI platform compatibility.
LG Electronics will demonstrate the integration and control of LG home appliances with Amazon's AI speaker 'Amazon Echo' at the 'IFA 2017' exhibition opening on September 1st in Berlin, Germany. The 'Amazon Echo' is a speaker equipped with Amazon's voice recognition AI assistant 'Alexa'.
Following LG Electronics' earlier integration of LG home appliances with 'Google Home' equipped with 'Google Assistant' starting in May, the company has now also connected with Amazon's 'Alexa', enabling more consumers to experience smart homes utilizing voice recognition AI platforms.
The LG home appliances compatible with 'Alexa' and 'Google Assistant' comprise seven categories: refrigerator, washing machine, dryer, air conditioner, air purifier, robot vacuum, and oven.
Users can easily control LG appliances by voice alone through devices equipped with 'Alexa' or 'Google Assistant' such as 'Amazon Echo' and 'Google Home'. For example, when a user says "Alexa, turn on the robot cleaner" to the Amazon Echo, the LG robot vacuum begins cleaning.
LG Electronics is progressively expanding its scope of collaboration with Amazon and Google. At last year's IFA exhibition, the company introduced the 'SmartThinQ Hub' equipped with 'Alexa', and at this year's CES exhibition, LG unveiled a smart refrigerator and home hub robot equipped with 'Alexa'. Additionally, at Google I/O held in May this year, LG demonstrated the operation of LG Signature humidifying air purifier via 'Google Home'.
Utilizing Self-Developed Voice Recognition AI Platform
In addition to Amazon's 'Alexa' and 'Google Assistant', LG Electronics is also utilizing its self-developed voice recognition AI platform. The company is primarily installing it in products that communicate in Korean, including the 'SmartThinQ Hub' AI speaker launched in April this year, the 'language learning' AI air conditioner launched in July, and the 'airport guide robot' currently undergoing pilot service at Incheon International Airport.
LG Electronics is enabling customers to experience AI appliances based on 'Open Platform' and 'Open Partnership' strategies. In accordance with this, the company plans to continuously expand its voice recognition AI platform offerings.

SK Telecom's AI device 'Nugu', launched as the first of its kind in Korea, has exceeded 100 million conversations and is bringing innovation to daily life. In particular, over the past month, users have actively used emotional keywords such as 'sleep well~', 'I love you', 'I'm bored', and 'thank you' when talking to 'Nugu', indicating that 'Nugu' is establishing itself not merely as a voice recognition device but as a friend to users. SK Telecom (CEO and President Park Jeong-ho, www.sktelecom.com) announced on the 3rd that the number of times users have spoken to 'Nugu' has exceeded 100 million over seven months since its launch last September. The average daily conversation count also reached 500,000.

[Decisive IT Scene] T-Map That Understands User Sense, Equipped with AI
SK Telecom announced plans to launch a service applying artificial intelligence technology to its mobile navigation app T map within the third quarter. When a driver says "Find COEX" while driving, T map automatically searches for the destination and asks the customer whether to set it as the destination before providing navigation. Once voice recognition and artificial intelligence are applied to T map, operation of home IoT devices becomes possible. While driving, it can ask whether the gas valve at home is closed, and if it is not closed, it can close it immediately. In case of an accident, emergency rescue requests can also be made with a single voice command. When a customer shouts "Request emergency rescue," the accident situation is reported to the police station/fire department, and location information is automatically transmitted, enabling rapid rescue operations.

SKT and Korea University to Establish 'AI Hospital' Introducing Voice Recognition
SK Telecom announced that it will establish an 'AI Hospital' in collaboration with Korea University Medical Center, a leading domestic medical institution (Executive Vice President and Medical Center Director Kim Hyo-myung), leveraging domestic artificial intelligence technology. The 'Intelligent Hospital' to be presented by both parties plans to provide patient-centric medical services by utilizing advanced ICT technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and MR (augmented reality + virtual reality). SK Telecom and Korea University Medical Center signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at Korea University College of Medicine on this day, with key stakeholders including Cha In-hyuk, Head of SK Telecom's IoT Business Division, and Kim Hyo-myung, Executive Vice President of Korea University Medical Center, in attendance.

LG Electronics’ swift moves to drastically reorganize its structure for artificial intelligence
LG Electronics has significantly strengthened its research and development capabilities in artificial intelligence to lead the Fourth Industrial Revolution era, implementing an organizational restructuring. Effective June 1st, LG Electronics established the 'Artificial Intelligence Research Institute' and 'Robot Advanced Research Institute' under the CTO (Chief Technology Officer) division. The existing 'Intelligence Research Institute,' which had been conducting research on voice recognition, image recognition, and sensor recognition, has been separated and expanded into the 'Artificial Intelligence Research Institute' dedicated to artificial intelligence and the 'Robot Advanced Research Institute' dedicated to robotics. The 'Artificial Intelligence Research Institute' plans to build an artificial intelligence platform that recognizes, infers, and learns diverse data such as customer product usage information and weather data through voice, image, and sensor inputs, with plans to apply it across all of the company's business areas including smart appliances, mobile devices, TVs, automotive components, and robots.
