STMicroelectronics Launches 8-Bit MCUs with Versatile Connectivity Options
Published2017.09.11 09:16STMicroelectronics (ST) has launched its new 8-bit STM8S001 microcontroller (MCU) in the economical SO-8 package.
Unlike most competing devices, the STM8S001 offers a wide range of connectivity options, including I2C, UART, and SPI interfaces. It also integrates 8KB of Flash memory, 1KB of RAM, 128bytes of EEPROM, and a 3-channel 10-bit ADC, delivering the core features of ST's most popular STM8S003 MCU in a space-saving, low-pin-count device.
Additional features include five GPIOs, one 8-bit timer, two 16-bit timers, and an internal RC oscillator with flexible clock control from 128 kHz to 16 MHz. It also supports the Single-Wire Interface Module (SWIM) for programming and debugging.
The STM8S001 is fully specified from -40°C to 125°C and features the latest, efficient STM8 core running at 16MHz, making it suitable for industrial devices such as smart sensors and lighting controls, as well as a wide range of consumer products including toys, small appliances, personal electronics, PC peripherals, and battery chargers.

ST's new Partner Program assists design teams by enabling them to add technology, products, and services to support engineering development and reduce time-to-market for new products. While searching online for ST's products, solutions, and resources, customers can simultaneously identify program member companies that have support capabilities for those products. These capabilities include cloud services, related components and modules, embedded software, engineering services, development tools, training services, and more. Alessandro Maloberti, VP of ST's Partner Ecosystem, states, "ST's Partner Program enables customers to quickly identify trusted partners who can provide expertise for critical design projects. We evaluate Partner Program members to ensure all partners consistently deliver high-quality services." He adds, "This program is designed to enable more product developers to begin new product designs by selecting from the broad portfolio of components, modules, embedded software, and tools provided on st.com through our partner support offerings."
