Microchip, MCU Firmware Development Framework Addition
Published2017.09.12 14:55Microchip Technology has announced that a fully-featured MPLAB Harmony 2.0, a firmware development framework for PIC32 microcontrollers, is available for free download.
Through a major update of this award-winning software platform, customers can create smaller and more efficient code to develop faster and more cost-effective devices. This update includes numerous new tools that can be used within the MPLAB X Integrated Development Environment (IDE) along with superior code quality.
MPLAB Harmony is a free software framework and tool suite included in Microchip's MPLAB X IDE and can be used with the MPLAB XC32 compiler. The MPLAB Harmony framework is available for PIC32 solutions and provides peripheral libraries, drivers, and system services to support application development. The software also includes Board Support Packages (BSP) for PIC32 development boards.
One of many upgrades in Harmony 2.0 is newly enhanced tools such as the Graphics Composer Suite for easy creation of graphical user interfaces (GUI). The newly enhanced Graphics Composer Suite adds tools including graphics asset management and utilization, image conversion (format conversion, compression, editing), a revised WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) engine enabling more accurate GUI representation from design to production, and a new Display Manager for easy application of non-standard displays.
Additionally, MPLAB Harmony 2.0 has expanded the existing peripheral code library and upgraded the product to meet the MISRA-C: 2012 mandatory standards. It also includes additional tools and support such as Board Support Package (BSP) Manager, standalone project export, and an updated Pin Manager. These updates were made to shorten design time, lower overall development costs, and increase profitability.
Rod Drake, Vice President of Microchip's MCU32 division, stated, "Research shows that when customers select an MCU for implementing embedded designs, they consider the software development ecosystem at least three times more important than other aspects. Microchip has made substantial efforts to incorporate customer feedback and make the MPLAB Harmony software framework better, faster, more efficient, and more useful. We believe customers will be very satisfied with this latest update, and we will continue to explore ways to exceed customer expectations in the future."

Microchip Launches Next-Generation Debugger Tool with Speed and Flexibility
Microchip Technology announced that it provides in-circuit programming and debugging development tools (MPLAB® ICD 4) for its PIC microcontroller and dsPIC digital signal controller portfolio. The MPLAB ICD 4 includes all the functionality of the widely-used MPLAB ICD 3 debugger while improving speed through a faster processor and expanded RAM. Additionally, since the MPLAB ICD 4 uses a 32-bit MCU operating at 300MHz, it delivers significantly faster performance. The buffer memory has also been increased to 2MB, resulting in speeds up to twice as fast as the previous product.

Microchip Holds Technical Training Event for Embedded Control Engineers
Microchip Technology has announced the start of registration for the 8th Korea MASTERs Conference. The technical education conference will be held from October 25 to 27 at Hanwha Resort in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, and will offer various lectures, hands-on training sessions, and opportunities to meet with experts. The Korea MASTERs Conference, Microchip's annual event, is the premier technical education event for embedded control engineers. It is designed to provide engineers not only with a venue to share and exchange technical information regarding Microchip's extensive product portfolio, but also to offer design resources for utilizing Microchip products in various applications.

SalePoint Signs Multi-Year Partnership Agreement with AWS… Promoting Identity Security that Integrates Even AI Agents
Sailpoint has entered into a multi-year strategic partnership agreement with AWS and is moving forward with establishing an integrated governance system that manages both human and non-human identities together. The plan is to consistently manage access permissions in an environment where AI agents are increasing as work execution entities, while applying the principle of least privilege and automated policy enforcement. Databricks Unveils Open AI Security Monitoring 'Lakewatch'
Databricks entered the security market on March 24 by unveiling LakeWatch, an open-source agentic SIEM. The core functionality of this product is to integrate and analyze security, IT, and business data in a single environment to support AI-based threat detection and investigation. The company explained that it reduces the limitations of existing security operations centers, which have had to forgo some data due to high cost structures, and enables large-scale data analysis and automation based on open formats and ecosystems. LakeWatch is currently offered as a private preview, with Adobe and Dropbox mentioned as early customers. Databricks also announced an expanded partnership with Anthropic as well as the acquisition of Antimatter and SiftD.ai.
