Western Digital Acquires Tesile Systems to Expand Enterprise Data Market
Published2017.09.12 16:46Western Digital (CEO Steve Milligan) announced that it has signed an acquisition agreement for Tegile Systems (hereinafter Tegile).
Tesile is a company that provides flash memory storage solutions for enterprise data center applications, and Western Digital plans to actively target the enterprise data market through the acquisition of Tesile. The acquisition is expected to be completed in September 2017 following some additional procedures.
Tesile, a pioneer in the flash storage field since 2012, has been leading the integrated storage platform sector with its 'IntelliFlash' architecture, a flash memory storage solution. Through the acquisition of Tesile, Western Digital has secured approximately 1,700 new customers, an innovative product portfolio, and skilled professionals.
Western Digital's Data Center Systems (DCS) business unit plans to enhance enterprises' data management capabilities by combining Tesile's expertise. By combining the technology of Tesile's IntelliFlash, which possesses expertise in the realm of massively generated real-time data (Fast Data), with Western Digital's ActiveScale, which holds expertise in Big Data, the company expects to increase the value of data throughout its entire lifecycle.
In addition, we plan to actively respond to changes in the enterprise and cloud data center markets, where there is a growing demand for reasonable prices, high stability, and high-performance, large-capacity storage architectures. Furthermore, as Tesail's high-performance flash storage arrays are integrated into Western Digital's data center system products to meet the demands of customers worldwide, revenue growth is also expected in Western Digital's data center system business segment.

Western Digital Joins Samsung in the Two-Power System with 64-Layer 3D SSDs
"We are currently maintaining the second position in the domestic SSD market after Samsung. Based on 64-layer 3D NAND SSDs, we plan to compete equally with Samsung starting next year." Shim Young-chul, head of Western Digital Korea (WD), made these remarks on the 29th at a 64-layer 3D NAND SSD domestic launch briefing held at the Samsung Grand Intercontinental. The 'WD Blue 3D NAND SATA SSD' and 'SanDisk Ultra 3D SSD' are products announced in May and will officially launch in the third quarter. The 'WD Blue 3D NAND SATA SSD' and 'SanDisk Ultra 3D SSD' feature identical performance and are distributed under different brands according to target markets as part of the strategy. Western Digital has built brand recognition in the hard disk drive (HDD) market. With market changes showing increasing SSD share, the company acquired SanDisk, which holds NAND flash assets, last year and is building competitiveness in the storage market.

Databricks Unveils Open AI Security Monitoring 'Lakewatch'
Databricks entered the security market on March 24 by unveiling LakeWatch, an open-source agentic SIEM. The core functionality of this product is to integrate and analyze security, IT, and business data in a single environment to support AI-based threat detection and investigation. The company explained that it reduces the limitations of existing security operations centers, which have had to forgo some data due to high cost structures, and enables large-scale data analysis and automation based on open formats and ecosystems. LakeWatch is currently offered as a private preview, with Adobe and Dropbox mentioned as early customers. Databricks also announced an expanded partnership with Anthropic as well as the acquisition of Antimatter and SiftD.ai.
