KT and Korea Expressway Corporation Collaborate via 5G for the Success of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics

KT announced on the 15th that it signed a business agreement with the Korea Expressway Corporation at its Gwanghwamun headquarters to 'support the construction of a 5G network for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics.'

KT and the Korea Expressway Corporation have pledged to cooperate to promote Korea's network technology capabilities to all visitors visiting for the Olympics, based on the success of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics and the world's first 5G.

Through this agreement, the Korea Expressway Corporation will support the construction of the 5G network by utilizing road closure periods for tunnel improvement projects to ensure the smooth establishment of KT's 5G network, and will cooperate in supporting locations and facilities for 5G pilot operations and operations.

With the support of the Korea Expressway Corporation, KT has built a 5G network in the Daegwallyeong Tunnel on the Yeongdong Expressway, which connects major cities such as Seoul and Incheon with the host region of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, and will introduce a seamless 5G pilot service even in high-speed moving environments starting in February 2018.

Last year, we successfully conducted field tests by building a 5G test network in areas expected to attract a large number of Olympic spectators, and this year, we have showcased various services that allow customers to experience 5G firsthand at various venues, such as the U-20 World Cup 5G Experience Exhibition Hall, the Suwon KT Wiz Park 5G Zone, and the Busan Haeundae 5G Land.

Starting this month, we plan to accelerate the installation of main network equipment for 5G pilot services in areas where the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics will be held, such as PyeongChang and Gangneung, beginning with the Daegwallyeong Tunnel.
