KT launches narrowband IoT-based location notification tag

KT announced that it will launch 'Connect Tag', a peace-of-mind smart location notification service based on Samsung Electronics' NB-IoT (Narrow Band IoT) network, within October.
Following the commercialization of its nationwide NB-IoT network in July, KT will exclusively launch the 'Connect Tag'. The key feature is that it enables stable and prolonged service use by utilizing low power consumption and small data capacity. Additionally, by linking with GPS and WPS (Wi-Fi-based positioning), users can identify more accurate locations both indoors and outdoors.
The 'Connect Tag' can be widely utilized in various location information-based services including child safety check-in, pet location tracking, personal asset location tracking, and travel luggage location monitoring.
The 'Connect Tag' features a compact size of 4.21cm width and length with 1.19cm thickness, and supports IP68-rated water and dust resistance for reliable outdoor use. Depending on usage environment, a single charge enables over 3 days of operation, reducing charging burden. A dedicated attachment ring is provided to easily secure the device to everyday items such as bags or keychains.
The 'Connect Tag' leverages KT's NB-IoT network advantages to provide an 'On-Demand' function that allows users to check location whenever desired, and a 'Geo-Fence' function that alerts when entering or leaving a designated virtual space.
In particular, the device offers location services including a 'Send My Location' function that allows users carrying the 'Connect Tag' to share their current location with guardians, and a 'Periodic Location Notification' function that enables users to receive location updates at desired time intervals.
The 'Connect Tag' will be available for purchase through KT distribution channels (Olleh Shop, dealers), Samsung Electronics website, and online marketplaces. Customers can use the service by subscribing to KT's NB-IoT 99 plan (9,900 won per year), and those subscribing by the end of this year will receive a discounted rate of 5,000 won.
Kim Jun-geun, Head of KT's GiGA IoT Division, stated, "This holds significant meaning as the first IoT collaboration service between KT, which possesses world-class communication infrastructure, and Samsung Electronics, a global IT leader," and added, "We plan to utilize the 'Connect Tag' across various KT businesses in the future, including providing convergence products linking the 'Connect Tag' with insurance services, and utilizing it as a terminal for elderly support services for isolated or dementia-stricken seniors promoted by the government and local authorities."

NB-IoT is a technology realizable through LTE, with wide application scope and low cost "When it comes to NB-IoT, many think of building a new network infrastructure.
