Samsung SDS and Sungkyunkwan University Sign MOU
Free access to 'Brightics AI', a data integration analysis platform

Samsung SDS and Sungkyunkwan University have joined forces to actively foster big data analysis experts, who are key talents for the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Samsung SDS CEO Yoo Sung Chung and Sungkyunkwan University President Kyu Sang Jung were among those in attendance when an MOU for industry-academia cooperation was signed at the President's office of Sungkyunkwan University on October 26 to promote big data analysis technology and conduct joint research.

Under this agreement, Sungkyunkwan University will establish a new "Department of Data Science Convergence" with a capacity of 60 students within the Institute of Intelligent Information Convergence as a graduate program in March of next year.
Samsung SDS is offering 'Brightics AI,' an AI-based integrated data analysis platform proven in various industrial fields such as manufacturing, marketing, and logistics, for free via the cloud. Brightics AI is a data analysis platform that rapidly analyzes vast amounts of information using artificial intelligence and visualizes them in an easy-to-understand manner. It offers the advantage of enabling even non-experts to easily analyze data through various analysis models. Brightics AI, possessing these advantages, is utilized as the official analysis tool for graduate students in the Department of Data Science Convergence at Sungkyunkwan University.

In addition, Samsung SDS and Sungkyunkwan University are putting great effort into jointly developing the entire course curriculum, as this is the first department established to cultivate the workforce needed by the industry.

Faculty from Sungkyunkwan University will be responsible for theoretical lectures on big data analysis technology. Researchers from Samsung SDS will serve as adjunct professors, conducting practical sessions and case study lectures.

Big data analysis specialists are key personnel in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution who utilize various analysis techniques to understand the meaning of corporate big data and discover insights.

Furthermore, it plays a crucial role in proposing process innovation, establishing business-related analysis models, and even optimized solutions by combining modeling, statistics, and analysis techniques.

However, despite its growing importance in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the domestic workforce is woefully insufficient.

According to the Korea Data Agency's '2016 Data Industry White Paper,' professional personnel account for only 1.3% (about 1,300 people) of the approximately 100,000 data workers in Korea.

Under these circumstances, experts assess that the collaboration between Samsung SDS and Sungkyunkwan University to cultivate big data analysis talent through an industry-academia program is inevitably highly significant.

Sungkyunkwan University President Jeong Gyu-sang emphasized, “We will actively foster big data analysis experts, who are at the core of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, through various collaborations with Samsung SDS, including joint research in education and technology development.”
