Improved living conditions for over 200 households in 7 countries since 2013

Samsung Electronics has partnered with Habitat for Humanity International, a global NGO that improves the living conditions of vulnerable families, and is carrying out activities to improve the housing and living conditions on Bangka Island, located east of Sumatra Island in Indonesia.

This social contribution project will construct housing for low-income families on Bangka Island over the next three years and provide living environments, drinking water, sanitation facilities, and educational opportunities.

To this end, there are plans to build about 100 houses in the village of Penagan on Bangka Island, improve sewage and drainage pipes that can be used by 200 households, and construct new public restrooms. Basic education on construction and hygiene is also provided to approximately 300 local residents so that they can directly maintain and use these facilities continuously.

In addition, there are plans to build a 'Samsung Smart Library' in Opas Indah village that will provide education using IT devices.

Kim Su-jin, Senior Vice President of Global Citizenship at Samsung Electronics, said, “We hope to contribute to solving community issues on Bangka Island by providing high-quality housing and digital education environments to the island’s residents,” adding, “This support is particularly meaningful as it was funded by donations from Samsung Electronics employees.”

David Andre Aldani, Head of Habitat for Humanity Indonesia, said, “Education is essential for everyone in the world,” adding, “I am happy that children can study in a proper environment.”

Since 2013, Samsung Electronics has partnered with Habitat for Humanity to improve the living conditions of over 200 households in seven countries, including Kenya, Argentina, and Vietnam, and to enhance educational environments by establishing solar-powered internet schools and local IT centers. Last May, the company also completed the Samsung Smart Library and Community Hall in the village of Loosari, Indonesia, and improved the living conditions of 31 households.
