Samsung Electronics has launched 'Special Color,' a COB (Chip-on-Board) type LED package for special commercial lighting that makes products stand out even more.

In grocery stores selling meat and vegetables or clothing shops, product colors significantly influence consumers' purchasing decisions, so special lighting is used to make product colors appear more vivid and attractive.

CDM (Ceramic Discharge Metal-halide) lamps and special alloy lamps, which are widely used in conventional commercial lighting, have limitations due to their high cost and short lifespan.

Although there are special LED lights utilizing near-ultraviolet (Near UV) light that can replace conventional lamps, near-ultraviolet light is effective in enhancing the colors of clothing treated with fluorescent whitening agents that make white stand out; however, for meat or vegetables that do not contain such agents, the effect is minimal and prolonged exposure can be harmful to the human body.

Samsung Electronics’ LED package ‘Special Color’ does not use near-ultraviolet light and applies an optimized spectrum design and a color temperature of 3,500K, which is most preferred in real life, making white more distinct regardless of whether fluorescent whitening agents are used and allowing the overall color of the product to be expressed more vividly.

In addition, to develop LED packages suitable for commercial lighting, Samsung Electronics collaborated with a specialized color research institute to conduct lighting sensitivity tests targeting the general public of various countries and age groups, and consumers [tested] clothing, meat, and vegetables The LED package lineup has been subdivided by varying the phosphor composition to clearly distinguish the characteristics of each product.

Jacob Tan, Vice President of Samsung Electronics’ LED Business Team, stated, "Samsung Electronics’ Special Color is an LED solution that understands products and further highlights them," adding that "it will be able to provide differentiated value to users."

Samsung Electronics has been mass-producing special color LED packages since last October, and along with a lineup of various light wattages ranging from 1,000 lm (lumens) to 4,000 lm, it also offers 'Fashion', 'Meat', and 'Vegetable' options, allowing customers to easily select products according to product characteristics.
