Biometric authentication technology application to internal systems completed

KT DS announced that it has completed the application of biometric authentication (FIDO) technology to its internal systems and is beginning to enter the market for building FIDO-based authentication systems.

KT DS selected fintech technology as a future strategic business earlier this year and has been focusing on technology development and commercialization. Subsequently, in June, it obtained international standard certification from the international standardization organization 'FIDO (Fast Identity Online) Alliance,' securing a foothold to enter the biometric authentication-based system integration business.

To demonstrate its technological capabilities and stability, KT DS applied FIDO technology to its in-house mobile office system, 'SMART ZONE,' on the 17th. 'KT DS Smart Zone' is used by approximately 1,300 employees, allowing them to conveniently handle electronic approvals, attendance management, meeting room reservations, and employee searches via smartphone.

KT DS applied Initech's biometric authentication solution (INISafe FIDO) to replace the login and electronic payment methods of Smart Zone, which previously required entering IDs and passwords using text, with fingerprints.

Starting with the implementation of this internal system, KT DS is launching its biometric authentication system construction business in earnest. It expects to quickly enter the market through the synergy of combining the security and FIDO solutions of its group company, Initech, with KT DS’s strengths in SI/SM capabilities.

Moon Sang-ryong, Head of KT DS Emerging Tech Division, said, “FIDO technology is expanding beyond its application in financial transactions to mobile office fields such as groupware and electronic payment,” adding, “We will do our utmost in technology development and commercialization so that it can evolve into multi-/complex authentication services through convergence with various technologies.”
