Samsung SDS announced that it has won the 'Establishment of Information Strategy Plan (ISP) for Seoul’s Blockchain-based Municipal Innovation' project, commissioned by the Seoul Metropolitan Government to integrate blockchain technology into administrative tasks.

In this project, the Seoul Metropolitan Government plans to identify and design future models where blockchain can be applied to all municipal administration tasks, including welfare, safety, and transportation, and to review the project's effectiveness and feasibility.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government plans to enhance citizen convenience and administrative transparency by first applying blockchain technology to areas requiring the use of personal information, such as the payment of allowances to unemployed youth and the sale of used cars in Janganpyeong, and then expanding it to all municipal affairs by 2022.

Under the contract with the Seoul Metropolitan Government, Samsung SDS plans to analyze the environment for introducing and expanding blockchain technology throughout the Seoul Metropolitan Government's administration over the next five months, and to design future models and establish systematic implementation plans.

Following the initial commercialization of its blockchain platform Nexledger to Samsung Card earlier this year, Samsung SDS successfully completed a test run applying blockchain technology to export cargo for Hyundai Merchant Marine, Namsung Shipping, and SM Line last month.

Samsung SDS CEO Hong Won-pyo stated, “Samsung SDS aims to contribute to Seoul’s leap forward as a world-class city by enhancing the transparency, fairness, and citizen convenience of municipal administration through its proprietary blockchain technology and consulting capabilities.”
