KT DS Receives Commendation for Meritorious Service to Open Source Software Industry Development
Published2017.11.27 11:18KT DS has proven itself to be the undisputed No. 1 open source company by winning the Minister of Science and ICT Award, the highest award in the 'Awards for Meritorious Service in the Development of the Open Software Industry.'
The 'Award for Meritorious Contributors to the Development of the Open Software Industry' is an annual event hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and organized by the National Information & Communication Technology Promotion Agency (NIPA) and the Korea Open Software Association, which awards individuals and organizations that have contributed to the development of the open software industry, such as the development and dissemination of open software.
Last year, KT DS's Open Source Meister Kim Sang-ki received a Minister's Commendation in the individual category, and with this award in the group category, the company has been honored with receiving a Minister's Commendation for two consecutive years.
The Group Award for Distinguished Service to the Development of the Open Source Software Industry is presented to companies that have promoted the creation of high-quality jobs, new markets, and new industries through open source software-related technology development, workforce training, and the creation and utilization of new business models.
KT DS has been recognized for leading the adoption of open source software among companies by reducing IT costs and standardizing through its application, and for expanding the domestic open source software business ecosystem through win-win cooperation such as partnerships with SMEs and support for technology internalization, as well as technology dissemination via seminars, training, and conferences.
KT DS's efforts to spread and promote open source software have already been steadily ongoing for a long time. In 2015, the 'KT DS Corporate Award' was established at the 'Open Source Software Developers Conference' to award outstanding student and general public developers every year, and in 2017, KT DS CEO Kim Ki-chul was appointed as the chairman of the organizing committee for the '11th Open Source Software Developers Conference'.
"KT DS CEO Kim Ki-chul said, 'KT DS has expanded its business and strengthened its technological competitiveness by designating open source, big data, the Internet of Things, cloud, and security as its five core technologies.' He added, 'Through this award, we will further strengthen our leadership in the open source business ecosystem and strive to become a company that contributes to the spread of new technologies such as AI and blockchain, as well as the development of the domestic software ecosystem.'"

KT Develops Solution Capable of 100Gbps Optical Transmission
KT announced that it has developed a '100G-PON' transmission solution capable of data transmission at speeds of up to 100Gbps over existing optical internet lines. The '100G-PON' transmission technology developed by KT achieves maximum speeds of 100Gbps by applying 10 wavelengths, each capable of transmitting 10 gigabytes per second within a single line. Unlike the conventional approach of establishing 10 separate 10Gbps transmission lines to achieve 100Gbps speeds, this technology reuses existing optical cables, thereby reducing both construction time and costs. With this technology applied, '10 gigabit internet,' which is 10 times faster than the currently commercialized 'gigabit internet,' can be reliably provided through existing infrastructure. In particular, it also enables the provision of 'wireless 5G fronthaul,' which allows 5G networks to be constructed by leveraging existing wired networks, and is evaluated as a technology that can accelerate the realization of the 5G era.

KT and Nonghyup usher in the era of smart livestock product sales
KT가 농협과 손잡고 ‘IoT 스마트판매시스템’을 선보인다. KT는 서울 중구 농협중앙회 본관에서 열리는 ‘IoT 스마트판매시스템’ 출시 기념식에 참석했다. 이날 행사에는 KT 이문환 기업사업부문장을 비롯 농협중앙회 김병원 회장, 국회 농림축산식품해양수산위원회 설훈 위원장이 함께했다. ‘IoT 스마트판매시스템’은 냉장·냉동 포장육인 한우, 한돈, 양념갈비 등을 소량으로 판매할 수 있도록 IoT 기능을 탑재한 신개념 식육 무인 판매기다. 한국농촌경제연구원의 ‘한육우 및 돼지 부문 수급 동향과 전망’ 보고서에 따르면국내산 한육우 자급률이 14년 만에 39% 이하로 떨어졌다. ‘IoT 스마트판매시스템’은 축산 농가수가 지속적으로 감소하고 육가공 일자리가 줄어드는 등 축산업계의 위기를 타개하기 위해 개발되었다.

Meet KT's AI 'GiGA Genie Family'
KT held a press briefing for the "GiGa Genie Family" at KT Square in Gwanghwamun, Seoul, introducing three new products: "GiGa Genie LTE," Korea's only LTE-based artificial intelligence speaker; "GiGa Genie Buddy," which enhances usability with a compact design; and "GiGa Genie Kids Watch," an AI-enabled smartwatch for children. GiGa Genie LTE was officially launched on the day, while GiGa Genie Buddy and Kids Watch are scheduled for release in early next year. KT stated its goal to make AI an enjoyable service for the entire family at any moment customers need through the GiGa Genie Family unveiled this time, just as it made AI accessible not as a difficult service but as an easy-to-enjoy offering for all family members since the launch of GiGa Genie. GiGa Genie LTE, which began official sales on the day, is the only AI LTE speaker in South Korea that enables users to access artificial intelligence services anywhere in the country. While other products are only usable in Wi-Fi environments, GiGa Genie LTE is usable anywhere and is the first artificial intelligence speaker with true mobility and portability.

SalePoint Signs Multi-Year Partnership Agreement with AWS… Promoting Identity Security that Integrates Even AI Agents
Sailpoint has entered into a multi-year strategic partnership agreement with AWS and is moving forward with establishing an integrated governance system that manages both human and non-human identities together. The plan is to consistently manage access permissions in an environment where AI agents are increasing as work execution entities, while applying the principle of least privilege and automated policy enforcement. The two companies plan to jointly expand capabilities to manage the identities of various entities, including AI agents, within a single layer in the AWS environment. This collaboration is interpreted as a move to design security and governance together in corporate environments where AI adoption is expanding.

Databricks Unveils Open AI Security Monitoring 'Lakewatch'
Databricks entered the security market on March 24 by unveiling LakeWatch, an open-source agentic SIEM. The core functionality of this product is to integrate and analyze security, IT, and business data in a single environment to support AI-based threat detection and investigation. The company explained that it reduces the limitations of existing security operations centers, which have had to forgo some data due to high cost structures, and enables large-scale data analysis and automation based on open formats and ecosystems. LakeWatch is currently offered as a private preview, with Adobe and Dropbox mentioned as early customers. Databricks also announced an expanded partnership with Anthropic as well as the acquisition of Antimatter and SiftD.ai.
