TI Launches Industry's Ultra-Compact Integrated Load Switch

June 24, 2009 -- TI has released the TPS229xx family of integrated load switches, featuring control turn-on and high-speed output discharge capabilities, to simplify subsystem load management.

This product family is available in an ultra-small 0.8mm x 0.8mm WSCP (wafer chip scale package) that is more than 10 times smaller than traditional discrete solutions, making it suitable for space-constrained applications such as portable media players, mobile phones, and portable navigation systems.

The TPS229xx family minimizes switch dropout voltage compared to competing solutions through the lowest on-resistance. In addition, it provides a low operating voltage of 0.9V to 3.6V, supporting various portable applications where low voltage specifications are becoming common.

The TPS229xx product family is currently being mass-produced in WCSP packages.

The TPS22901 and TPS22902 provide 78mΩ on-resistance in a 4-terminal package (0.8mm x 0.8mm) and cost $0.32. The TPS22903 provides 66mΩ on-resistance in a 4-terminal package (0.8mm x 0.8mm) and costs $0.32.

The TPS22906 provides 90mΩ on-resistance in a 4-terminal package (0.9mm x 0.9mm) and is priced at $0.32. The TPS22921 and TPS22922 provide 14mΩ on-resistance in a 6-terminal package (1.2mm x 1.2mm) and are priced at $0.42. (Prices based on 1,000-unit quantity)
