Plan to implement platforms at major Line 5 stations by the end of this year

KT announced on the 8th that it signed a strategic memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Seoul Metropolitan Transit Corporation at the corporation's headquarters in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, for a "safe and clean Green Subway demonstration project and joint research on future public transportation technology."

Under this agreement, the two companies plan to cooperate on energy efficiency, prevention of safety accidents and crime, improvement of subway air quality, and research on open gates for tag-free boarding.

Seoul Metro is the largest local public enterprise in Korea and is recognized for possessing world-class infrastructure among subway operators. The Corporation expects that if its infrastructure and big data are combined with KT's advanced telecommunications technology, it will contribute to leading the Fourth Industrial Revolution in the country.

KT plans to apply the AI energy integrated platform 'Giga Energy Manager', security solution 'Giga Eyes', voice detection emergency bell 'SafeMate', and real-time air quality measurement solution 'Giga IoT Air Map' to major stations on Line 5 by the end of this year.

Giga Energy Manager is a service that displays real-time energy consumption status and analysis results on a PC or smartphone and optimizes energy costs. GigaEyes provides not only security services but also intelligent video analysis, alerts/dispatch, and IoT (smoke/motion/sound/temperature/humidity) complex alerts.

SafeMate can detect screams in places such as women's restrooms, and Giga IoT Air Map checks the air quality status of subway stations in real time to improve the user environment.

In addition, KT and Seoul Metro are jointly conducting technology research to evolve transportation services, such as developing open gates to alleviate congestion at subway stations during rush hour, in order to improve the convenience of using public transportation. Subway Line 5, which passes through the headquarters of both companies (Gwanghwamun and Dapsimni), was selected for the field test of the demonstration project under this MOU.
