KT and Daejeon Metropolitan City's Dong-gu Office announced that they will strengthen the pilot service of the 'GiGAeyes (hereinafter referred to as Gigaeyes) Forest Fire Surveillance Solution' based on the intelligent video security service established at Daejeon's Sikjangsan Mountain in response to the recent severe cold weather.

"GigaEyes" is a service that collects video from high-definition, high-performance CCTV cameras, stores it on KT's intelligent video security platform, analyzes it, and provides customers with high-definition monitoring video in real time. Intelligent video analysis, which integrates IoT and big data, enables immediate response to disasters and various crimes that are difficult to prevent or respond to with monitoring-focused CCTV.

Last October, KT and Daejeon Dong-gu Office piloted the "GigaEyes Forest Fire Monitoring Solution," jointly developed with Intellibix, across Daejeon's Sikjangsan Mountain. The two sides agreed to gradually expand the scope of the project, collaborating with local governments on forest fire prevention and disaster safety.

The 'Giga Eyes Forest Fire Monitoring Solution' installs high-definition/high-function CCTV cameras on wireless base stations (steel towers) owned by KT in mountainous areas, and remotely monitors the images transmitted through dedicated lines from the local situation room based on intelligent image analysis technology.

If an abnormal situation such as smoke appears on CCTV, the video analysis engine of the 'Gigaeyes Forest Fire Surveillance Solution' automatically detects it and sends a real-time warning message through the Daejeon Dong-gu Office control system. District office managers can quickly recognize disaster situations through warning messages or warning lights installed separately from the situation room monitor.

Recently, the Korea Forest Service has predicted that the rapid response function of the 'Gigaeyes Forest Fire Monitoring Solution' will become more important as forest fires, which were concentrated in the spring, are increasing in the summer and fall due to climate change.

Daejeon Dong-gu Office Safety City Bureau Parks and Green Spaces Division Chief Jeon Jin-man said, “When a forest fire breaks out, it spreads quickly and causes significant damage, so quick situational awareness and response are extremely important. With KT’s ‘Giga Eyes Forest Fire Monitoring Solution,’ we can receive immediate alarms when an abnormal situation occurs, enabling us to respond quickly to the situation. We also expect to be able to operate control personnel more efficiently in the future, so we are overall satisfied.”
