KT and Ajou University Medical Center Sign MOU for Advancement of Regional Trauma Center
Published2017.12.27 15:21KT announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Ajou University Medical Center for mutual cooperation aimed at advancing medical services at regional trauma centers and developing and applying medical ICT solutions.
At the signing ceremony held at Ajou University Medical Center in Suwon, Gyeonggi-do, officials including KT Chairman Hwang Chang-gyu, Ajou University Acting President and Medical Center Director Yoo Hee-seok, Regional Trauma Center Director Lee Kuk-jong, and KT Sports President Yoo Tae-yeol attended to discuss future cooperation.
Through this agreement, KT will sponsor a total of 600 million won over three years for the establishment of a research institute being pursued by Ajou University Medical Center for research on predicting preventable deaths and the development of trauma surgery. In addition, to facilitate fast and accurate communication among medical staff, it will provide a total of 130 million won, including 70 units of KT Powertel's LTE walkie-talkie 'Razer' and usage fees for three years.
The LTE walkie-talkie Razer enables simultaneous communication for up to 8,000 people and helps accident scenes, ambulance helicopters and vehicles transporting patients, and regional trauma centers communicate quickly and simultaneously. In addition, it features a video call function that helps to assess the patient's condition more accurately than when using conventional voice calls or text messages.
Meanwhile, KT supplied digital healthcare solutions to 10 hospitals in Kazakhstan in September of this year and signed a digital healthcare business agreement with Russian Railways, a Russian railway company, in December, continuously pursuing global expansion of its medical ICT business.
KT Chairman Hwang Chang-kyu stated, “With regional trauma centers serving severely injured patients facing significant challenges, I hope this collaboration will serve as a foundation for the advancement of regional trauma centers in Korea and the expansion of the medical ICT business.” He added, “Moving forward, KT will continue to leverage its diverse group capabilities to work together with trauma centers to address and resolve their difficulties.”

KT launches commercial 5Gbps next-generation Wi-Fi service, three times faster than existing Wi-Fi networks.
KT announced that it has completed the development of a next-generation Wi-Fi commercial Access Point (AP) with 5-gigabit-class speeds, approximately three times faster than existing gigabit Wi-Fi, and will launch commercial service on a world-first basis. The next-generation Wi-Fi AP developed by KT utilizes technology based on IEEE 802.11ax standard specifications and applies 8X8 MIMO technology to approximately double the frequency efficiency compared to conventional APs. Additionally, by adopting a 10G internet backhaul solution, stable Wi-Fi service provision is possible even in high-capacity traffic environments. KT has deployed the next-generation Wi-Fi at KT Square in Gwanghwamun and KT Avenue in Gangnam, and will begin commercial service for general customers starting on the 27th.

European Patent Applications Surpass 200,000 for the First Time… South Korea Maintains 5th Place, Led by Batteries and Telecommunications
According to the European Patent Office (EPO)'s 'Technology Dashboard 2025', European patent applications last year reached 201,974, surpassing 200,000 for the first time. Korean companies and inventors filed 14,355 applications, representing a 9.5% increase from the previous year and maintaining 5th place by country. Battery, digital communication, and semiconductor technologies led the growth, with Samsung ranking as the top EPO applicant for the second consecutive year and LG reaching 3rd place. The presence of major domestic cities such as Seoul, Suwon, and Yongin was also confirmed. It was also revealed that Korea's European patent strategy is expanding beyond individual technologies to span the entire industry.

SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK텔레콤이 3월 21일 서울 광화문 일대에서 열린 대형 K-팝 공연에 AI 기반 네트워크 운영 시스템을 처음 적용해 통신 품질을 관리했다고 밝혔다. 공연 전후 3시간 동안 모바일 데이터 사용량은 12.15TB로 직전 주말 같은 시간대보다 약 2배 늘었다. SK텔레콤은 AI 시스템 ‘A-One’을 활용해 5분 단위, 50m 단위로 트래픽을 감시하며 과부하 가능성에 대응했고, 임시 통신 시설과 현장 인력 운영도 병행했다. 밀집 행사와 외국인 이용 수요가 동시에 늘어나는 환경에서 AI 기반 자율 네트워크 운영의 현장 적용 가능성을 확인한 사례로 해석된다.
