Free six-month practical training for those seeking employment in the AI field.

KT announced that it signed a strategic business agreement (MOU) with the Ministry of Education for the 'Korean Nanodegree (tentative name)' project at the KT Research and Development Center in Umyeon-dong, Seoul.

Nanodegree (short-term education course certification system), which will be piloted starting this year, is a system that responds to rapid technological changes in fields related to the Fourth Industrial Revolution and supports continuous learning for adult learners, directly reflecting corporate needs in education.

On November 9th of last year, the Ministry of Education announced plans to introduce a "Korean Nanodegree" program and selected representative companies in each promising industry sector in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The information and communication technology sectors include virtual reality (AR), augmented reality (VR), the Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing, and AI. KT, a leader in AI technology with its artificial intelligence TV "Giga Genie," was selected as the first representative company in the AI field to participate.

Under this agreement, KT, a leading information and communications technology (ICT) company, will define the core roles and competencies required by companies in the AI field, as well as develop and validate evaluation criteria for trainees. A briefing session for educational institutions will be held on February 9, 2018, to provide further details. KT aims to actively cooperate with the Ministry of Education's "Korean Nanodegree" project to ensure its revitalization and to contribute to resolving the imbalance in supply and demand of AI-related personnel in Korea.
Separately, KT recognized the need for a national training center to address the mismatch between supply and demand for talent related to the Fourth Industrial Revolution. On September 26th of last year, the company opened the "AI Training Center" within the Group Human Resources Development Center at its Bundang headquarters. Since then, the program has been in full swing, with approximately 280 employees from group companies and partner companies participating in the training program.

This year, KT will further expand its "Practical AI Expert" training program to actively cultivate AI talent. The first course of the year, tentatively named the "2018 KT AI Academy," will be offered free of charge to those seeking employment in the AI field, covering a total of six months from February 26th to early August. Trainees who complete the entire program will be supported in securing employment at relevant companies.
