Samsung Electronics has proven the security of its smart TVs through certification from a security standards agency.

Samsung Electronics has received security certification from the TV industry's only international common evaluation standard, CC (Common Criteria), for three consecutive years, and has also obtained the 'PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard),' a security certification related to payment services using TV.

Starting this year, Samsung Electronics is working to protect consumers from security threats such as hacking by applying its security technology, Knox, to its entire lineup of smart TVs produced after the 2015 model year through firmware updates.

Knox, applied to Samsung Electronics smartphones, smart TVs, and home appliances, safely protects the smart TV platform through hardware security, the most basic security, as well as periodic firmware updates.

Samsung Electronics recently received PCI DSS certification for payment service security using smart TVs from UL (Underwriters Laboratories), a global safety certification agency, in line with the growing trend of 'T-Commerce' users purchasing digital content, goods, and services such as VOD (video on demand) through smart TVs.

PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) certification is provided by five global card companies including Visa and Mastercard. This is an international security standard jointly developed to strengthen related information security and conduct internationally consistent information security evaluations. The main certification targets are credit card companies, payment gateway (PG) companies, and card merchants.

In particular, the T-commerce-only simple payment service 'Check out on TV' installed on Samsung Smart TV supports 'Secure Keyboard' and 'Secure Number Key (Numpad)' provided through the Knox platform, thereby encrypting credit card information and preventing it from being stored separately within the device, thereby enhancing security.

In addition, Samsung Electronics has collaborated with global security company McAfee to jointly develop 'McAfee Security for TV,' a TV-specific antivirus software, and installed it on Samsung Smart TVs.
