Introduction to the Challenges for 5G and Efforts for Global Leadership

KT announced that it participated in the 28th HSN (High Speed Network) 2018 and held a session to share its efforts and preparation status for the "world's first 5G at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics."

HSN is a forum organized by seven organizations, including the Institute of Electronics and Information Engineers and the Korean Institute of Communication Sciences, with the aim of developing information and communication networks and services, and sponsored by 25 companies, including the three major domestic telecommunication companies.

The 28th HSN 2018 Forum will discuss Korea's future ICT strategies and key solutions by examining the development of future ICT infrastructure, key technology trends, and the current status and prospects of new ICT industries under the theme of 'Network Innovation for the 4th Industrial Revolution'.

KT Network Division President Oh Sung-mok delivered a keynote speech on the 24th during the session under the theme "Challenge for the World's First 5G at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics." President Oh Sung-mok announced the significance of 5G in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, new opportunities brought about by 5G, KT's efforts to secure global 5G leadership, the completion of preparations for the world's first 5G service application at the PyeongChang Olympics, and the 5G vision to lead the Fourth Industrial Revolution.



At the event, President Oh Seong-mok emphasized, “5G will become a core element of the Fourth Industrial Revolution as a future innovation infrastructure,” and stated, “By showcasing the world’s first 5G service to the world at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics, South Korea has laid the foundation to lead the Fourth Industrial Revolution.”

In addition, Lee Jae-seop, Director General of Standardization at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), expressed anticipation for KT’s 5G network and services to be applied at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics, and predicted that in the future, 5G networks will become a “Fixed-Mobile Hybrid Network” combining wireless and wired connections.

In addition, Jeong Hong-seok, Director of the HSN (High Speed Network) Business Division, stated that experiencing the 5G services KT is preparing will serve as an opportunity for the world to once again recognize that South Korea is a powerhouse in ICT.

In addition to President Oh Sung-mok's keynote speech, KT showcased its network technological capabilities and diverse information through session presentations such as Senior Vice President Lee Jong-sik's "Current Status of 5G Network Pilot Construction and Considerations for Commercialization" and Team Leader Ahn Tae-jin's "Case Studies of Deep Learning Application by Telecommunications Operators for Network Intelligence," as well as a panel session on "New Business in the Era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution" featuring Senior Vice President Seo Young-il.We had a meeting to share with the Nion leaders.
