KT Spreads 5G Network Construction Know-How to Global Markets

KT held a '5G Request for Proposal (RFP) Briefing Session for Selecting 5G Commercial System Development Partners' and explained to attendees the direction of 5G commercialization and key technology requirements.
The 5G RFP includes 5G commercial system requirements based on 3GPP standards that reflect KT's 5G commercial network construction plan. Through the briefing session, KT presented 5G business directions and commercialization matters to operators based on its know-how in preparing Pyeongchang 5G services.
Additionally, the briefing session on that day explained KT's key 5G commercialization initiatives, including a future-oriented cloud communication structure, a 5G control system that applies artificial intelligence technology, and coexistence with small and medium-sized enterprises through standardization of 5G MVI (Multi-Vendor Interoperability).
Meanwhile, the RFP also included KT's commitment to developing the 5G MVI standard through technical collaboration with global manufacturers. Once the MVI standard is completed, it will enable the interoperability of equipment from multiple vendors, allowing heterogeneous equipment manufacturers to participate in 5G network construction.
In particular, KT will continue its efforts to expand the global 5G ecosystem by developing the 5G MVI standard early and strengthening standardization activities so that it can be reflected in global standards. Through this, we plan to focus on mutual growth by establishing a foundation for technology sharing between large corporations and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Seo Chang-seok, executive director of KT's network strategy division, said, "Building on the experience of preparing for the PyeongChang 5G service over the past three years, KT is now fully gearing up to become the world's first 5G commercialization company." He added, "We will thoroughly prepare to provide innovative services and strive to create a 5G ecosystem that can coexist with many domestic and foreign partners."

KT Proposes 'Infectious Disease Spread Prevention Platform' at Davos Forum
KT Chairman Hwang Chang-gyu proposed a 'Global Epidemic Prevention Platform (GEPP)' at the Davos Forum. GEPP is a platform that gathers infectious disease information centered around international organizations such as the WHO and delivers it to each country's health authorities and individuals. Two operational approaches for GEPP were proposed: normal times and emergency situations. During normal times, infectious disease risk information is identified and provided only to those who have consented to the use of their personal information. In emergency situations such as pandemic outbreaks, the system identifies visit information to infectious disease outbreak areas from all mobile phone users and provides risk advisory services to users. He emphasized that global consensus must precede this implementation and stressed the roles of international organizations including the ITU (telecommunications), WHO (health), and WEF (economics).

SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK텔레콤이 3월 21일 서울 광화문 일대에서 열린 대형 K-팝 공연에 AI 기반 네트워크 운영 시스템을 처음 적용해 통신 품질을 관리했다고 밝혔다. 공연 전후 3시간 동안 모바일 데이터 사용량은 12.15TB로 직전 주말 같은 시간대보다 약 2배 늘었다. SK텔레콤은 AI 시스템 ‘A-One’을 활용해 5분 단위, 50m 단위로 트래픽을 감시하며 과부하 가능성에 대응했고, 임시 통신 시설과 현장 인력 운영도 병행했다. 밀집 행사와 외국인 이용 수요가 동시에 늘어나는 환경에서 AI 기반 자율 네트워크 운영의 현장 적용 가능성을 확인한 사례로 해석된다.
