Samsung SDS Breaks Ground on 'Data Center' for High-Efficiency Services

Samsung SDS held a groundbreaking ceremony for its Chuncheon Data Center in Chiljeon-dong, Chuncheon, attended by key officials including CEO Hong Won-pyo, and set out to strengthen its cloud business.
The Chuncheon Data Center is an energy-efficient data center that will be completed in the second half of next year and will be built on a 39,780㎡ site, which is 5.5 times the size of a soccer field, with two floors above ground.
The Chuncheon Data Center enhances financial services while serving as a cloud data center for services requiring high efficiency, such as AI and big data.
Once the Chuncheon Data Center is completed, Samsung SDS will strengthen the competitiveness of its domestic data centers alongside its existing overseas data centers in the U.S., Germany, India, and Brazil, thereby establishing a lineup for its cloud business.
The Chuncheon Data Center operates as a Software Defined Data Center (SDDC), a next-generation data center technology in which IT resources such as servers, storage, and networks are virtualized and automatically integrated and managed by software.
Samsung SDS is focusing on developing its cloud business by securing cutting-edge cloud technologies through strategic alliances with leading cloud companies such as Amazon, Microsoft, Oracle, Virtustream, and SpotInst.

Samsung SDS's Q4 sales were driven by smart factory solutions and logistics BPO.
Samsung SDS announced its fourth quarter results and provisional 2017 performance, reporting 2017 revenue of 9.299 trillion won and operating profit of 731.6 billion won. This represents a 13.7% increase in revenue and 16.7% increase in operating profit compared to 2016. The company stated that growth was driven by the solutions/cloud segment and logistics BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) business. For the fourth quarter, revenue increased 6.8% sequentially from the third quarter to 2.467 trillion won, while operating profit increased 7.4% to 206.5 billion won.

Databricks Unveils Open AI Security Monitoring 'Lakewatch'
Databricks entered the security market on March 24 by unveiling LakeWatch, an open-source agentic SIEM. The core functionality of this product is to integrate and analyze security, IT, and business data in a single environment to support AI-based threat detection and investigation. The company explained that it reduces the limitations of existing security operations centers, which have had to forgo some data due to high cost structures, and enables large-scale data analysis and automation based on open formats and ecosystems. LakeWatch is currently offered as a private preview, with Adobe and Dropbox mentioned as early customers. Databricks also announced an expanded partnership with Anthropic as well as the acquisition of Antimatter and SiftD.ai.
