Samsung Electronics, Cisco, and Orange Conduct 5G FWA Pilot Service
Published2018.02.08 11:57Samsung Electronics will conduct a 5G FWA (Fixed Wireless Access) pilot service in Romania for about a month starting in the second half of 2018, together with Cisco and European telecommunications company Orange.
This pilot service is characterized by the use of multi-vendor equipment for the first time in Europe. Interoperability between different types of products can be secured in advance, and 5G network construction can be done more quickly and stably.
Samsung Electronics plans to provide indoor and outdoor 5G home routers, miniaturized 5G base stations (5G Access Units), and network design services for a 5G FWA pilot service that provides Gigabit internet services based on 5G technology.
Cisco supplies the 'Cisco Ultra-Gateway Platform,' a next-generation virtualization core product based on 'Cisco NFV Infrastructure,' which separates the Control Plane and the User Plane to process large amounts of 5G data more quickly and flexibly.

"We will successfully conduct this demonstration test to establish a foothold for expanding into the European market."
"Collaboration across different industries and ensuring interoperability between vendors are key requirements for the success of 5G," said Yvette Kanouff, Executive Vice President of Cisco's Carrier Business Unit. "We expect this 5G pilot service, conducted with Orange and Samsung Electronics, to demonstrate the potential of 5G for realizing a Connected Society by discovering innovative virtualization technologies and models at new scales."

KT to meet at Gwanghwamun for the PyeongChang Winter Olympics
KT announced that it has completed construction of the "Gwanghwamun KT Live Site" in Seoul, where citizens and visitors can experience the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics and the "world's first 5G" firsthand. The Gwanghwamun KT Live Site will commence full operations starting from the 9th, when the Olympics opens. The Gwanghwamun KT Live Site is a multipurpose cultural space where general citizens and foreign visitors coming to Korea for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics can experience winter sports integrated with 5G networks and ICT technology, as well as watch major events from the PyeongChang Winter Olympics. Built as a two-story container booth with an area of approximately 250 pyeong, the KT Live Site is located at the central plaza in front of the Sejong the Great statue at Gwanghwamun.

5G 자율주행차로 사고와 돌발 상황 걱정은 그만!

European Patent Applications Surpass 200,000 for the First Time… South Korea Maintains 5th Place, Led by Batteries and Telecommunications
According to the European Patent Office (EPO)'s 'Technology Dashboard 2025', European patent applications last year reached 201,974, surpassing 200,000 for the first time. Korean companies and inventors filed 14,355 applications, representing a 9.5% increase from the previous year and maintaining 5th place by country. Battery, digital communication, and semiconductor technologies led the growth, with Samsung ranking as the top EPO applicant for the second consecutive year and LG reaching 3rd place. The presence of major domestic cities such as Seoul, Suwon, and Yongin was also confirmed. It was also revealed that Korea's European patent strategy is expanding beyond individual technologies to span the entire industry.

SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK Telecom announced that it applied an AI-based network operation system for the first time at a large-scale K-pop concert held in the Gwanghwamun area of Seoul on March 21st, managing communication quality throughout the event. Mobile data usage during the three hours before and after the concert reached 12.15TB, approximately doubling compared to the same time slot the previous weekend. SK Telecom monitored traffic using the AI system 'A-One' in five-minute and 50-meter units to respond to potential overload situations, while also operating temporary communication facilities and on-site personnel in parallel. This case is interpreted as confirmation of the practical applicability of AI-based autonomous network operation in an environment where demand from dense events and foreign users increases simultaneously.
