ZTE Establishes Industry Leadership Prior to 5G Commercialization in China
Proprietary Technology MUSA Testing Meets ITU Standards
ZTE Corporation, a leading global provider of communications for mobile internet, as well as enterprise and consumer technology solutions, is entering full-scale market deployment of fifth-generation mobile networks, known as "5G," driven by new opportunities from fifth-generation and fifth-generation strategic development.
Focusing on 5G end-to-end solutions, ZTE is targeting industry leadership in standardization for 5G technology, technology development and certification, as well as commercialization of 5G core technologies and economies of scale for next-generation mobile networks.
In 2018, placing great expectations on 5G, ZTE invested 3 billion yuan annually and established a team of over 4,500 advanced technology experts for 5G research. Through securing massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology, ZTE achieved spectrum efficiency and expanded 5G network capacity and coverage.

A ZTE 5G official stated, "To meet large-scale network access requirements through 5G networks, non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) across the industry and ZTE's MUSA (Multi User Shared Access) solution were selected and proposed to relevant institutions." The official noted that through this solution, the system can support user access 3 to 6 times using the same time-frequency resources, enabling collision-free scheduling and significantly reducing terminal power consumption.
China's 5G Phase 2 MUSA technology testing achieved access performance of 90 million accesses/MHz/hour, far exceeding the standards defined by the ITU (International Telecommunication Union).
As the first proposer of MUSA technology, ZTE is leading industry standard development by having NOMA adopted by 3GPP RAN Working Group 1. The Working Group conducts research specifying the physical layer of the radio interface (radio layer 1) for 5G New Radio (NR).
Simultaneously, in chip design and development, ZTE launched the industry's most integrated next-generation baseband unit (NG BBU) based on its own proprietary high-performance vector processing baseband chip. Subsequently, ZTE launched the industry's smallest and lightest 5G active antenna unit (AAU) based on a highly integrated digital IF chip.
ZTE's 5G base stations not only met basic requirements in Phase 1 and Phase 2 of China's 5G testing, but also completed 26GHz high-frequency field testing with excellent void performance results. Today, ZTE has commenced Phase 3 of China's 5G testing for its entire 5G product portfolio and completed end-to-end debugging and market launch of commercial solutions.
