VR experience utilizing VR walk-through technology, 5G base station equipment exhibition

KT announced that it will showcase 5G technology and convergence services under the theme "Experience the World's First 5G, KT" at the Mobile World Congress 2018 (MWC 2018), the world's largest mobile telecommunications exhibition held in Barcelona, Spain.

KT is participating in 'Innovation City,' a joint theme pavilion of the Global Mobile Communications Association (GSMA), alongside global companies such as Huawei, Turkcell, and Jasper. The KT exhibition booth is largely composed of a '5G Zone' introducing the world's first 5G network and services, and a 'Service Zone' showcasing cutting-edge convergence services.

The '5G Zone' introduces the process KT has undertaken to prepare the world's first 5G technology and various services based on the 5G network. The 'Service Zone' showcases a variety of items attracting global attention, including AI, autonomous vehicles, blockchain, and smart energy. Additionally, in collaboration with five partner companies for shared growth, it supports their global expansion alongside their exhibition participation.

In the '5G Zone,' actual 5G devices are on display, allowing visitors to visually confirm the faster speed of the 5G network compared to the 4G network. Based on the ultra-high speed, ultra-low latency, and ultra-connectivity characteristics of 5G, a 5G broadcast relay is demonstrated that synthesizes and transmits video captured by multiple drones in real time.

In addition, KT is exhibiting 5G base station equipment based on Pre-5G and NR (New Radio) standards, which it jointly developed with leading global manufacturers such as Samsung, Nokia, and Ericsson. Furthermore, users can enjoy VR experiential games based on 5G networks without dizziness by applying KT's wireless VR transmission technology, VR Walk-through technology.

KT has solidified its global 5G leadership through MWC. Chairman Hwang Chang-kyu first declared 5G in his keynote speech at MWC 2015, and at MWC 2017, during a keynote speech themed "5G & Beyond, Accelerating the Future," he announced plans to commercialize 5G for the first time in the world by 2019. KT is accelerating its efforts toward the world's first 5G commercialization by showcasing various services through its 5G pilot network in February 2018.

The 'Service Zone' introduces various convergence services that will lead the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, which is attracting global attention. You can see 'AI Networking,' which demonstrates an AI-based network failure prediction system; 'GiGA Drive,' which introduces 5G autonomous driving and connected cars; and 'GiGAeyes,' an intelligent video security solution.

In addition, KT will exhibit its smart energy control system 'KT-MEG', blockchain-based secure data storage, optical sensor-based disaster safety solutions, IoT services such as NB-IoT, and telecommunications-based credit rating information services.

At this MWC as well, KT has prepared a space in its exhibition hall for the overseas expansion of five partner companies. These partner companies are showcasing 5G broadcasting relay services, 5G DAS (equipment for 5G service networks), remote support AR video communication services using smart devices, and iris/face recognition solutions applicable to various security services.
