Collaboration with KT and MEG on the development of big data and AI-based smart power plants
“We will expand the added value of both companies’ businesses and increase customer benefits”

KT and Korea Electric Power Technology have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for a 'state-of-the-art ICT-based energy convergence joint project'.

Through a business agreement, the two companies agreed to jointly pursue the identification of energy convergence business opportunities, the development of power plant energy management systems, and the development of technologies for the implementation of smart power plants.

KT has developed the integrated energy management platform 'KT-MEG' and is centrally monitoring energy production and consumption at approximately 12,000 locations. In addition, KEPCO E&C possesses power plant design technology and operational know-how accumulated over more than 40 years. The two companies agreed to jointly identify business opportunities in the fields of combined heat and power and renewable energy.



In addition to this, the two companies plan to jointly develop a Plant Energy Management System (Plant EMS) capable of monitoring power plant operations, predicting and diagnosing dangerous situations and providing early warnings of risks, and managing distributed energy. Furthermore, they plan to integrate the Plant Energy Management System with KT-MEG to implement smart power plants based on IoT, big data, and AI.

Yoon Kyung-rim, Head of KT’s Future Convergence Business Promotion Office, stated, “Based on the complementary core competencies of KEPCO E&C, we will actively strive to expand the added value of both companies’ businesses and increase customer benefits through joint business development in the fields of combined heat and power and new and renewable energy.”

Lee Bae-soo, President of KEPCO E&C, said, “This will serve as an opportunity to achieve technological innovation by combining the core competencies and technological capabilities of both companies,” adding, “We will cooperate with KT in various fields to expand our entry into the new energy industry and secure new growth engines.”
