Combination enables startups to quickly implement brown-in protection
Detection of abnormal line input conditions in addition to standard output short-circuit and overvoltage protection

Infineon has launched the fifth-generation fixed-frequency 700V/800V CoolSET family. This solution integrates a PWM controller IC and the latest 700V and 800V CoolMOS P7 MOSFETs in a single package. The single platform supports both isolated and non-isolated flyback topologies.



The 700V/800V CoolSET utilizes an internal current regulator and high-voltage superjunction MOSFETs in a cascode configuration. This combination ensures fast startup and brown-in protection (protection against input voltage drop). The integrated 800V MOSFET and optimized blanking time support high AC line inputs up to 350 VAC. Switching losses are reduced through eco-mode, which features a lower switching frequency under medium and light load conditions.

In addition to standard output short-circuit, overload, and overvoltage protection, CoolSET can detect abnormal line input conditions. System protection includes VCC and CS pin short-circuits to ground to prevent controller damage during abnormal startup conditions. Overtemperature protection utilizes hysteresis to improve operational error handling. All protection modes are implemented with automatic restart, minimizing system interruption.
