Samsung Family Hub Wins 'Grand Prix' at Ergonomic Design Awards
Published2018.05.15 17:10Samsung Electronics announced that its 'Family Hub' refrigerator, a new concept home appliance incorporating artificial intelligence and IoT technologies, won the 'Grand Prix Award,' the highest honor at the '2018 Ergonomic Design Award' organized by the Korean Society of Ergonomics.
The 'Grand Prix' is a title awarded to the most ergonomically superior product across all categories.
The 'Ergonomic Design Award' is the most prestigious award in Korea, marking its 18th year. It is selected by evaluating various items from a consumer's perspective, including ease of use, efficiency, functionality, emotional quality, safety, and marketability.
The Korean Society of Ergonomics stated that Samsung's 'Family Hub' refrigerator positions the screen at an appropriate height based on ergonomic analysis and considering the human body dimensions of various consumers, and regarding the 'easy access screen' function for wheelchair users and children, and the location of key buttons
It was evaluated as particularly outstanding for enhancing accessibility by providing features such as adjustable 'side navigation' and a 'screen color inversion' function that improves visibility for the visually impaired.
The 2018 'Family Hub' refrigerator features 'Voice ID' voice recognition technology It was also recognized for its emotional quality by providing customized information for each family member, such as schedules, memos, news, and weather, and by strengthening communication among family members.
In addition, the food management function, which enables easy registration of ingredients, automatic entry of expiration dates, and purchase of ingredients using only voice by applying AI-based voice recognition technology Bixby and an internal camera, was evaluated as having significantly improved product efficiency.
"The Family Hub is a premium product that maximizes user convenience through an ergonomic design that considers diverse consumers and advanced voice recognition technology," a Samsung Electronics official said. "We will continue to introduce ergonomically superior products by systematically and scientifically analyzing consumer usage patterns."
