24/7 disaster network operation center operated at Jongno-gu government building

KT announced that it signed a contract with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety regarding the ‘Disaster Safety Communication Network (hereinafter referred to as the disaster network) control and maintenance project.’

KT expects that its expertise in the field of disaster safety communications will further increase as it has won the contract for the maintenance project following its contract for the disaster network pilot project in 2015. Above all, it is significant that it has secured the continuity of disaster safety projects by directly constructing the network as a disaster network pilot project operator and taking charge of maintenance.

Under this contract, KT will maintain disaster network-related equipment, including 221 main control devices and base stations in Seoul and Gangwon (Pyeongchang, Jeongseon, Gangneung) regions, and approximately 2,500 portable terminals built during the disaster network pilot project period, until the end of this year.


In addition, the Disaster Network Operation Center in the government building in Jongno-gu, Seoul will be operated 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Through this, we will conduct periodic/regular inspections of the disaster network and strive to prevent failures. In the event of a failure, we will be able to maintain disaster network performance through prompt action by KT experts. In addition, we will also provide training to relevant organizations such as fire departments/police/local governments to ensure smooth operation of the disaster network system.

In November 2015, KT signed a contract with the Public Procurement Service for the '1st Disaster Safety Communication Network Construction Project' worth 27 billion won. Accordingly, KT completed the construction of a disaster network centered on the Seoul Disaster Network Operation Center and the Pyeongchang area of Gangwon Province over a period of approximately seven months, and deployed specialized personnel to stabilize the network during the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.

Lee Chang-geun, executive director of KT’s public customer division, said, “As a company with experience in building and maintaining numerous national infrastructure networks, including the defense network, KT will do its best to operate the disaster network successfully in this disaster network maintenance project as well,” adding, “Based on the know-how accumulated through this, KT hopes to contribute to national safety in this disaster network project as well.”
