KT commercializes P-TTS, adding Park Myung-soo's voice to Giga Genie.
Published2018.05.23 15:36KT announced that it will be the first in Korea to commercialize deep learning-based 'personalized voice synthesis technology (P-TTS)' for AI speakers, and as a start, it will launch the 'Beat Park Myeong-su' quiz game that applies P-TTS technology to Giga Genie on the 25th.
The P-TTS technology being commercialized this time utilizes deep learning to synthesize a specific person's voice using only a few days of collected voice data. This technology goes beyond simply pronouncing sentences, learning individual speech patterns and intonations to enable natural, human-like speech. This marks the first commercialization of P-TTS technology in an AI speaker in Korea.
While there have been examples of deep learning technology used to synthesize voices using celebrity voices, these have been limited to synthesizing only a limited number of sentences or requiring post-processing to refine the data after voice synthesis. In contrast, KT's P-TTS technology can synthesize any sentence, completes the synthesis in less than one second per sentence, and requires no post-processing.
In line with the development of personalized voice synthesis technology, KT will launch the quiz game "Beat Park Myung-soo" on the 25th, featuring Park Myung-soo's voice. "Beat Park Myung-soo" is a game where you can say "Genie, beat Park Myung-soo" to Giga Genie and solve new quizzes every day, including current affairs, Park Myung-soo's real-life sayings, guessing the capitals, and guessing the 19th level (Indian Vedic mathematics), all in Park Myung-soo's voice. You can solve 5 problems every day, and if you get all the problems right, you win the quiz battle with Park Myeong-su.
"Beat Park Myung-soo" runs for a week from Friday to Thursday, and features a real-time ranking function that calculates the total number of days in which all five questions are answered correctly, attendance, and the accumulated number of correct answers per week. Top-ranking users will receive various weekly events, such as "Solve the quiz with Park Myung-soo every day and Park Myung-soo will buy you a movie on the weekend."
Kim Chae-hee, executive director of KT's AI business division, said, "We have commercialized technology to reflect the needs of customers who want to hear voices of specific people from AI speakers," and added, "In the future, we plan to provide a service that changes Giga Genie's voice to that of a favorite celebrity, or reads a storybook in the parent's voice when commanding Giga Genie to read it."
