KT announced on the 24th that it successfully concluded the '5G Service Idea Contest' by holding a new 5G service presentation with the seven teams that advanced to the finals.

KT held a '5G Service Idea Contest' for domestic and international university (graduate) students from April 11 to May 8 to increase the interest and understanding of the younger generation regarding 5G and to discover ideas that can innovate daily life.

This contest involved proposing new service ideas utilizing 5G technology, which offers transmission speeds 20 times faster than LTE, response speeds 10 times faster, and more than 10 times the capacity for large-scale connections. Seven teams were selected to advance to the finals through a screening process.



The seven selected outstanding teams learned proposal writing methods and presentation skills through a two-week mentoring and PT coaching process with KT's in-house experts, and held their final presentations on the 24th at KT Square in Gwanghwamun, Jongno-gu, Seoul, under the concept of "Admission and Graduation of 5G University."

The top prize was awarded to the VR communication platform 'Q=VC' by the 'BomBom' team (Jin Ju-hyeong, Han Su-bin, Kim Ju-won / Sungkyunkwan University), which presented a new communication paradigm in the VR world, and they were awarded 5 million won in prize money and a certificate.

The 'Q=VC' service proposed by the 'Bombom' team is for 5G where VR content has become commonplace As a new concept communication platform, you can create a cube-shaped virtual room within the VR world to meet friends and enjoy music, sports, and more together.

In addition, the Excellence Award (2 teams, 3 million won each) went to Team Meongcheonghan Lab's 'WIZINI' and Team Deokhu's '5G.NIE'; the Encouragement Award (2 teams, 1.5 million won each) went to Team Genius's '5G-guyo Geni-guyo' and Team 5Gu5Gu's 'Gwi-ga-jini'; and the Honorable Mention (2 teams, 500,000 won each) went to Team Black Five's 'Pabble Pabble' and Team Hybrudi's 'VRDI', and each was awarded prize money and a certificate.

Unlike typical competitions that end with simple proposal submissions and one-time presentations, KT provided customized programs that allowed for direct communication and interaction with the students, receiving great acclaim from the participating students.

For the teams advancing to the finals, two in-house experts in each 5G service field were assigned as mentors to actively support the enhancement of the university students' capabilities by providing specific knowledge about 5G, as well as supporting the development of ideas through discussions, supplementing the details of proposals, and structuring presentation storylines and providing tips.

Kim Beom-gi (26, Dongguk University), who participated in the finals, stated, “It was very helpful to have the opportunity to think more deeply and broadly by directly discussing with KT’s in-house experts, and it was rewarding as it served as a stepping stone for further growth.”

Another participant, Kim Hyun-young (26, Gongju National University), said, “In the contests I have participated in so far, there were many cases where I felt empty after just receiving an award, but I really liked that I was able to develop my ideas through feedback from working-level staff at KT’s 5G service idea contest.”

KT also [conducted] the finals to move away from a rigid contest and increase familiarity with the theme of '5G' The presentation was conducted under the concept of a "5G University Dreamed Of by College Students." The venue was designed to resemble a university campus, and the event was conducted to match the atmosphere of a campus setting, such as an entrance ceremony, student council president presentation, and a festival. The venue became a space where presenters and attendees mingled, gained inspiration regarding 5G services, and communicated with one another.

Lee Yong-kyu, Senior Vice President of KT’s 5G Business Division, stated, “Through this 5G contest, we were able to confirm the direction of 5G services as envisioned by university students, and the high-level analysis and creative ideas from the participating students provided great inspiration to the working staff as well.” He added, “We will review and refine the winning teams’ valuable ideas with relevant departments and strive to incorporate them into actual 5G services.”
