KT Establishes Fishing Monitoring System in Two West African Countries

KT announced on the 27th that it has launched a project to establish the 'West Africa Integrated IUU (illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing) monitoring system' in two West African countries, Sierra Leone and Liberia, in collaboration with the East Sea Fisheries Management Group of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.
This project involves establishing a 'Korean-style fisheries surveillance system' to monitor and control illegal fishing by vessels within the fishing zones of Sierra Leone and Liberia in West Africa. It is a pilot project funded by Official Development Assistance (ODA) and commissioned by the East Sea Fisheries Management Division of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, with a total scale of $2.5 million. This marks the first time Korea has exported a fisheries surveillance system to the African region.
KT Exports Fisheries Monitoring System to West Africa
KT has experience successfully establishing the 'deep-sea fishing vessel operation monitoring system' in 2014 through cooperation with the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and KT SAT. Based on the experience gained domestically, the company plans to successfully establish a Korean-style operation monitoring system overseas.
KT plans to build a customized system tailored to the West African environment by reflecting local requirements, such as periodically monitoring vessel locations and sounding alarms when illegal fishing vessels are detected. In the future, it is expected that rapid response to disaster situations will be possible through the establishment of a system that goes beyond monitoring fishing operations to disseminating real-time information regarding safety accidents such as hijackings and groundings, and transmitting the location of vessels to relevant agencies.
"This project marks Korea's first export of an overseas fishing surveillance system and will serve as a green light for future global business expansion," said Yoon Kyung-rim, Vice President and Head of KT's Global Business Promotion Office. "Taking this project as an opportunity, KT plans to accelerate the development of fishing surveillance and maritime disaster safety businesses in West Africa, as well as pioneer the local market."

분석부터 판단까지...'지능형 영상보안'이 한다
건물 안이든 밖이든 CCTV는 어디에든 있다. 범죄와 사건, 사고를 감시/추적하기 위해 곳곳에 설치되어 있기 때문이다. 그렇다면 정말 CCTV가 범죄 예방 효과가 있을까. 사전적 범죄 예방의 효과와 CCTV의 상관관계에 관한 연구는 없다. 하지만 ‘사건 발생 후’에는 강력범죄, 폭력사건 등의 수사를 위해 영상정보를 제공하는 경우는 많다. CCTV가 범죄를 예방하기 어려운 이유는 실시간 모니터링을 사람이 하다 보니 한계가 있다는 것이다. 이에 ‘지능형 영상보안 서비스’에 대한 관심이 커지고 있다. CCTV는 이미지 수집의 센서 역할을 하고 지능형 영상보안은 자체 알고리즘을 통한 영상분석과 상황판단을 하는 것이다.

KT Receives Intelligent CCTV Certification for Defense Industry
KT는 지능형 CCTV 영상분석솔루션 ‘기가아이즈 2.0’(GiGAeyes VA v2.0)이 국내 최초로 KISA(한국 인터넷 진흥원)의 방위사업분야 인증을 획득하였다고 밝혔다. KISA 방위사업분야 인증은 국방분야 ‘과학화 경계 시스템’ 사업을 위한 지능형 CCTV 기술력을 평가하기 위해 실시되었다. 지능형 CCTV는 카메라에 포착된 움직임을 분석하고 이상행위를 탐지하는 시스템으로, 영상분석 솔루션을 활용해 침투 등 이상징후를 자동으로 판단하고 알려주는 서비스이다.
