KT Completes Construction of 2018 Asian Games Broadcasting Network

KT announced on the 2nd that it has completed the construction of an international broadcasting network between Korea and Indonesia for the broadcasting of the '2018 Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games' to be held in Indonesia starting on the 18th.
KT has been selected as the lead telecommunications carrier for the international broadcasting network to transmit the Asian Games in real time domestically. Broadcasts transmitted from local stadiums via KT's international network will be received at the KT International Communications Operations Center in Hyehwa and provided exclusively to the three terrestrial broadcasters.
KT constructed the entire international submarine cable between the Jakarta International Broadcasting Center (IBC) and the three Korean terrestrial broadcasters in the form of a main route and a backup route. By utilizing the overseas Point of Presence (POP) facility operated by KT in Hong Kong, the design allows for immediate rerouting in the event of a potential network failure.
Not only submarine cables but also land-based optical cables are utilized. Even if a large-scale earthquake occurs in the waters off Taiwan, which is located in the Pacific Ring of Fire, immediate response is possible by diverting through the land fiber optic cable from KT Hong Kong POP via China.
As the Asian Games are drawing nationwide attention, KT has completed quality tests to prepare for international telecommunications support and emergency recovery drills to prepare for emergencies.
In addition, to ensure successful communication support during the Asian Games, KT will open a comprehensive situation room from the 11th until the end of the competition on September 2nd and enter into an emergency work system. The company also plans to do its utmost to provide flawless service regarding international phone and internet communication measures for tourists visiting Indonesia, including the Asian Games cheering squad.
Kim Seong-in, Senior Vice President and Head of KT's Global Consulting Team, stated, "KT has provided broadcasting networks for major international sports events, including the 2014 Brazil World Cup, the 2016 Rio Olympics, the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, and now the Asian Games," adding, "KT will make thorough preparations to ensure there are no disruptions in the broadcasting of the Asian Games."

SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK Telecom announced that it applied an AI-based network operation system for the first time at a large-scale K-pop concert held in the Gwanghwamun area of Seoul on March 21st, managing communication quality throughout the event.
