Real-time management of KT building greenhouse gas emissions

KT will establish and begin operating a greenhouse gas monitoring system on the 23rd.

KT manages the emission status by monitoring greenhouse gas emissions from 169 KT buildings located nationwide in real time to promote greenhouse gas reduction activities.

In accordance with the government's greenhouse gas emissions trading system implemented since January 2015, KT carried out activities to reduce electricity consumption in telecommunication facilities, such as improving the structure of the telecommunication network and introducing high-efficiency, low-power telecommunication equipment, as well as energy efficiency activities, such as building eco-friendly cooling systems, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The newly established greenhouse gas monitoring system collects real-time electricity usage using power meters installed in KT buildings and provides greenhouse gas emission figures based on this information. Through a dashboard built on a separate website, in addition to checking electricity usage and greenhouse gas emission status, users can view power consumption and greenhouse gas emissions by building, day, and hour, as well as year-on-year changes and the achievement rate of target emissions.

KT expects that this system will enable it to derive ways to reduce greenhouse gases and promote greenhouse gas reduction activities, and plans to expand its application to approximately 300 buildings owned by the KT Group nationwide during the second half of the year.

Based on its experience in building and operating greenhouse gas monitoring systems, KT is pursuing the commercialization of greenhouse gas emission allowance management linked to its energy business. By integrating the greenhouse gas monitoring system into the KT Smart Energy Management Platform (KT-MEG) as a detailed function, the company plans to develop a greenhouse gas emission allowance management business model that links with energy diagnostic analysis, solar power, DR (Demand Response), and ESS (Energy Storage System).
