Samsung Research America Discusses Innovative Technologies
In-depth discussion on AI, mobile services, IoT, design, etc.

Samsung Electronics held the Tech Forum 2018 in Silicon Valley, USA on the 6th (local time) to discuss future innovative technologies in the IT industry and to foster exchanges with talented individuals.

The second Tech Forum, held at Samsung Research America in Mountain View, Silicon Valley, was attended by approximately 150 local developers and designers.

They heard from Samsung Electronics executives about the company's vision and technologies, and discussed innovative technologies such as AI, mobile services, home IoT, and cloud, which are currently hot topics.

From Samsung Electronics, representatives from each division attended, including Kim Hyun-seok, President of the CE Division, Noh Hee-chan, President of the Management Support Office, and David Eun, President of Samsung NEXT.

Kim Hyun-seok, President and Head of CE Division and Samsung Research Institute, delivered a keynote speech on the topic of “encounter,” the starting point of new value.
President Kim said, “Samsung Electronics faces three unfamiliar encounters every day: meeting millions of consumers who are difficult to identify, meeting rapidly changing new technologies, and meeting employees with diverse personalities.” Said.

He continued, “Samsung Electronics will make this unfamiliar encounter the start of a new and fun innovation.”

To this end, President Kim said, “We are continuously researching and understanding the tendencies and values of new consumers, and reflecting these in our products,” and added, “Going forward, we will further expand our touchpoints with consumers to every corner of our living spaces, leveraging Samsung Electronics’ unique strength of selling approximately 500 million devices annually, and bring innovation to lifestyles.”

He also stated, “We will go beyond simply resolving existing inconveniences and shortcomings and pursue the implementation of enjoyable and fun technologies that allow all devices and services to be naturally connected by accurately recognizing individual tendencies and characteristics.”

Lastly, he emphasized, “We will further develop an organizational culture where diverse global talents work harmoniously while continuing to change, and where anyone with creative ideas can take on challenges.”

Daniel D. Lee, a world authority in AI robotics and director of the New York AI Center Vice President Lee will lead a discussion on the topic of 'AI Future and Robotics,' and sessions will also be held in which individual Samsung Electronics executives and attendees will have in-depth discussions in four areas: AI, mobile services, home IoT, and design.

Samsung Electronics' latest products and technologies were also on display, including the Galaxy Note 9, Galaxy Watch, and home IoT centered around the Family Hub refrigerator.

An AI developer who attended the forum said, “Through today’s event, I was able to increase my understanding of Samsung Electronics’ AI strategy and direction, as well as the global AI center that supports it.”

Meanwhile, in September, Samsung Electronics hosted the "AI Forum," inviting world-renowned scholars to explore the latest AI research trends and application directions. Furthermore, in October, it hosted the "Samsung Open Source Conference (SOSCON)" to share technological trends with developers. This month, the company plans to continue its open innovation initiatives by engaging with developers and partners at the "Samsung Developer Conference (SDC)."
